I'm building my first gaming/editing rig and i was wanting to know whether i should go for RAM with higher Mhz or RAM with more gbs. It's a choice between 16gb of 1800Mhz ddr3 or 8gb 2400Mhz ddr3. Thanks

Ram speed doesn't make much of a difference outside of some memory intensive applications. Quantity is almost always better than higher speed when it comes to ram.

Higher frequency RAM is useful with AMD APUs, but you are building a editing rig so I assume your build doesn't have a APU. You should go with 1866 MHz 16 GB RAM.

It's important to make sure you have a good balance between latency/RAM timings and clock speed. Generally, the higher clock speed RAM sticks have worse timings than the lower speed ones. Linus did a test on clock speed vs RAM timings on a performance basis and the sweet spot was the 1866 MHz with a CAS latency of 9. With the 1866 MHz RAM sticks you're getting more RAM too so it's really a no-brainer in this case.
