A mining rig is a computer that is built specifically for the purpose of mining currencies such as bitcoins. When a bitcoin is mined using algorithms it gives the owner a bitcoin.

There have been many wars that have rocked the face of Earth, Many have heard of WWI, WWII, The Cold War, The Vietnam War and the Iraq War. But there has been a war that only a handful of humans know.....AMD vs Intel. It all started in 1985 when Intel released the first 32bit processor, the Intel 386. This war has been raging on for decades and Intel and AMD are still at each others throats. Fanboys have been ruthlessly killed, motherboards have been short circuited and most gruesome of all... CPU pins have been bent. Stop this war before it is too late. #STOPTHISWAR

So that pc does what?

The pc solves cryptographic problems. Anybody can run a free program called bitcoin miner that just mines blocks of bitcoins.

And then you get bitcoins...

What are the minimum requirements of the pc specs to do that and how big of an impact does is have on the overall performance?

And is this really benefitial? I see pictures of rigs that have like 8 gpus so the power bill must be pretty high, right?

Yes then you get bitcoins.

Mining bitcoins with gpu's used to be profitable. However bitcoin has a system where it increases the power needed to gain a bitcoin when too much are being generated. You basically only mine using specalised rigs. Unless you get have free electricity and 4 7970's mining bitcoins with a gaming pc is useless.

Investing in bitcoin is like stepping into a dark hole. There could be a a pool filled with gold or quicksand. You could invest $1000's in a mining rig, but then the currency crashes. If you have the money to sustain a mining rig, go ahead. You might find jackpot.

I wouldn't really mine anymore. The price of a bitcoin has crashed.

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D

It is no longer profitable, without serious investing. Look at the "TerraHash Klondike 64" for example. It cost about $1000.

It will give you a mining speed of 18GH/s. It pulls 130 watts.

Plug it into THIS calculator and you wont even be making enough money to pay the power bill.

As people have pointed out mining Bitcoin with GPUs is not profitable now because of the huge hash power of the network. ASICs are used for almost all the mining of Bitcoin and Scrypt miners are definitely being used to mine LTC and DOGE, but GPU mining is still possible in those coins.

I wouldn't suggest anyone buy hardware for mining at this point, it's very hard to get a return on your investment. If you want to mine a cyptocurrency there are plenty of cryptos that use other hashes which can only be GPU mined. I suggest you take a look at them on the Bitcointalk forum:

I hope this helps a little, good luck with whatever it is you choose to do :)

Nah, I'm not getting into mining, because I don't have the cash to do it, its too risky for me and I don't even know if this is possible in my country. I just wanted to know what is this ''mining'' stuff.

But thank you anyways :)
