Stoping Skype Resolvers

Gofspar

Okay, so what happens when they decide to make it a law? Mass surveilance is also illegal and also goes against human rights, so how come you "don't care" about that?

If that happened there would be a bloodbath. Also i doubt it would be accepted. there would be one heluva revolt over here.

and if it was iligal im amazed Microsoft is not sued.

Literally everything connected to the internet is monitored.

False.

Just to make you happy, Mumble is probably the most secure VoIP application.

And what's your point? I use Mumble myself.

False.

Whatever you think.

And that's why the people that spout that mass surveillance is okay, while CCTV cameras in your home are not okay, are hypocritical and can't even make a basic argument without it being filled with flaws.

What makes listening to your Skype calls, monitoring your Skype video, and reading your Skype chat logs okay, but CCTV in your house not okay?

So you don't bitch about me being retarded and not knowing anything, honestly Skype is fine for normal use and thats my final verdict.

So you're implying things like encryption do not exist?

Encryption is all well and good but anybody can have a go cracking something.

And spend hundreds of years trying, with no certainty of being successful.

And my final verdict is that it isn't fine for any use. Again, I care about my own human rights and privacy.

I don't see why you need over the top security unless you are sitting in the HTP Mumble.

Well like you said, its a non concern to me, i dont bother with Video Calls. Voice and text is enough.

CCTV on the other hand is a more extreme 24/7 spying and monitors MORE then just my conversationson the internet. They can stalk my conversations on Skype all they want, but what i do elsewhere, OH HELL NO.

Nothing to hide, nothing to care about, however i don't like when people watching me having Sex, im not a Porn actor.

There's a faster and easier way.

Windows

  • Options -> Advanced -> Connection -> Allow direct connections to your contacts only.

Linux

  • Go to HideMyAss proxy list.
  • Find the fastest SOCKS 4/5 proxy.
  • Options -> Advanced -> Connection
  • Automatic Proxy Detection -> SOCKS Proxy.
  • Enter in the IP address in the "Host" box and the Port in the "Port" box.
  • Hit apply and close.
  • Restart Skype to reroute your connection.

The Linux method can be done on Windows as well for double the protection. Rerouting traffic back to localhost doesn't solve the problem like most think. ;)

Here's another solution: don't use Skype. Microsoft is able to listen in to your calls and read your chat logs. If you care about your basic human rights, you wouldn't use it to begin with.

So you have no opposition to the government putting CCTV camera in your home then. After all, you have nothing to hide so where's the issue?

You also have no opposition to closing your curtains - you have nothing to hide after all.

And you'll be down to posting your email account password here so we can read your emails. And your Facebook password. Again, like you said, you have nothing to hide.

And you'll post a nude photo of yourself without clothes on - there's nothing to hide under those clothes, right?

Or you could have a read through this and start actually giving a shit: http://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/wiki/index#wiki_why_do_i_care_about_privacy_if_i_don.27t_have_anything_to_hide.3F

The direct connection bullshit wont stop resolvers and if some asshat is trying to just wireshark your IP.

It will stop resolver's as no one not on your contacts list can establish a peer to peer connection through the node with you. Also if you got people on your Skype trying to sniff out your IP just to hit you with a shell then you really need to be more careful of who you make friends with, no?

Alright, give me your skype, and I'll prove my point that it will still resolve you, different resolvers use different methods. I had SpeedResolve's old source code and the direct connection bullshit didn't work.

And my point of this thread was to show people skype is a heap of shit and how to fix it if they do enjoy using it.

You think you can resolve an IP address through a proxy? Not going to happen. There aren't any alternatives to resolving IP addresses through Skype. Pretty much every paid service available runs their resolver through a paid API (yes, hub owners pay for use of this API). Skype revolvers are actually getting scarce on paid services due to it no longer being as effective (hotfix). You might be able to pull up an old IP address as some revolvers like to store the resolved IP address in a database attached to the Skype handle. So if you have a static address even if the sites API is broken or down you can still resolve people through querying their database of logged addresses for that handle. The registry loopback trick in your original was one of the first "methods" to stopping people from resolving your IP address tho in reality it never worked. If you want to be sure you're safe connect your entire machine to a VPN. Or at least follow my Linux guide (will work on Windows as well) and force Skype to connect to users through a proxy. Trust me there are easier and more effective ways of obtaining peoples IP addresses than using a Skype resolver. I won't discuss this further in detail as it's against CoC.

If they keep it secret and use it to find threats and stuff, where is the problem?

Of course theres different ways to get IP addresses, I noticed theres alot of streamers on LTT, I was just trying to help people that are getting targeted from random skids on twitch.
