Is a 5GHz router an absolute requirement?

Is a 5GHz router an absolute requirement to be able to use Nvidia's GameStream services on the Shield Tablet? I don't think I have the worst router but it's certainly not top of the line.

For minimal lag/interference it's a requirement. I don't think it even runs on 2.4GHz.

You'll want to do it anyway, requirement or not since the 5GHz frequency has a lot less interference at the moment (will take a while to saturate 5GHz)

Doesn't look like it supports 5GHz wireless

The drop-off in signal strength on most 5GHz bands is pretty big. So ideally you'll want to be as close to your router as possible when on it.

Also don't make the mistake of getting a 5GHz capable router if the majority of your device are 2.4GHz only.

A good internet connection and a good 2.4GHz router is perfect for the job.
