POLL: Top Banner on the Forum for Linus Media Group Office Campaign - Yay or nay?

For 10K if you were in the US you could "contribute" to a Congressman and have them subsidize you move.

Way I see it, is that it is advertising for yourselves and not some third party company so I don't see a problem with it.

I see no issues with self promoting your own campaign.

Excuse my Paint skills. I think something like this would be a good balance between tastefulness and effectiveness .

Yes, but I would like there to be an option to be removed for forum members who are logged in.

Or people who have seen it, can simply block it with an Ad-blocker.

Is it possible to block just a single ad on a website? or do you have to block the entire domain?

Yeah. I'm frankly not even against ads on this website considering you guys aren't douchebags (complete opposite frankly). But anyways. Yeah. Definitely go for it

Yes it`s a good idea. You guys deserve all the support from this community. In the end this is basically for us because you will be able to produce more content.

Hi @nicklmg, any chance we can see a mock-up of what it would look like (Even a vague resemblance?)

I'm all for it, but I'm still kind of curious how it would "fit" into the top spot.

I'm not 100% sure what it will look like (waiting on the results of this poll before we create anything), but it will be a still image, mostly text, in LMG colours. I'm assuming (and please don't quote me on this as it may change) that it will be similar to our affiliates one on the right side of the page.

Best answer I have at the moment! I'll try to get other Nick to mock something up in the next couple days since the response has been very positive so far :3

What is this?

As you may or may not have heard, we are moving to a new office very very soon! This is extremely exciting for all of us, as it means that we will have the space to put together amazing sets for our current shows as well as any shows that may come in the future. It also gives us the space to pick up some new team members here at LMG, something that we are pretty much out of in our current office...

Over the next month and a bit, we will be running a crowdfunding campaign through the forum to help supplement our moving expenses and renovation costs. There will be some very cool contributor rewards and quite a few awesome stretch goals (more info on those soon :D :D).

Now, many moons ago when the forum was but a wee discussion board, we promised that we would never add a top banner ad to our site. We know that many of you guys appreciate that, and we never plan to accept payment for a top banner spot on our forum.

However, with your approval, we would love to be able to advertise our own crowdfunding campaign in the top banner spot. Obviously our dedicated community members will find out about the campaign either way, but casual visitors might not see it unless it is prominently displayed in a spot like the top banner.

So please answer the poll and leave your thoughts down below. Can we add a top banner for our own campaign? Would we be going against our word to do so even though it's for our own campaign with no third party involved?

Rest assured, we won't be adding a top banner ad for our crowdfunding campaign unless there is an immensely positive response to this poll.

Thanks everyone!

-Nick

Nick. I agree on putting the banner on top.

btw. do you mean on top of the actual banner (ltt logo and search bar on the other side)

or inbetween the Logo and the Search bar ? I think that in between would be better

I'm all for it! As long as the promise of no other ads being put there is kept, I have no problem at all with you putting a crowd-funding notice up there - well, as long as it's not going to be there for 2 years or something, haha!

I have to say that I don't really see it as an "advert" when its content is for the benefit of the forum and thus community - I just don't like ads that are nothing to do with the thing they're on, ie. "You're the 1,000,000th viewer!!!" or "Here's some product that no one would ever need! Please buy it!" sorta things.

@nicklmg make sure you keep the group expansion sustainable, don't grow faster than you can sustain. Sure you've all already discussed it but meh, I like the channel.

A banner on the LinusTechTips website informing LinusTechTips viewers about a LinusTechTips campaign. Y R U SO EVIL??

Its absolutely fine, put anything you like in the top banner. I do not feel strongly against a company who provides free entertainment and a free access community using advertising of anykind.

Looking forward to the campaign. Just hope I have a job so I can contribute.

NB: Potentially the worst time of year to do a crowdfunding campaign would be now. Christmas is coming up for all the Christmas doing nations.
