[G SIX] LukaP's Mac Pro G5 Log [Phase: Back online]

LukaP

wwMtlCj.jpg

First off, thanks for taking a look at this, means a lot. :)

Recently, i have acquired Apple's Mac Pro Gen5 case, which i have wanted for ages. My plan is to custom fabricate a new back I/O plate and the motherboard tray, to make it fit an ATX board, and its expansion. I wish to make a mod worthy good enough that i can ask for sponsorship from companies to be able to fit it with hardware as good as the case itself is.  ^_^

I got it in this state. Physically its in a great condition apart from the dirt, since it was apparently sitting in a shed for the last couple of years
i6Xq1HG.jpg

As you can see, the front is still as classy as it was when it was new, and im planning on keeping it that way.
tuiD73a.jpg

The insides are extremly roomy, im actually looking forward to working in here, nowhere to cut yourself on.
njdXBPG.jpg

The back will soon go away, will be replaced by a very similar design, but able to accomodate the ATX form factor
jxK5Dht.jpg

It still had the plastic foil on the (4.5mm thick) side panel :D

Album of all the pics im taking

Hope you have liked what you have seen, and be sure, there will be even more awesome stuff coming soon, so subscribe. ^^

Where'd you find one for sale? (at a decent price I hope)

I was looking to pick one of these up a few months ago, but couldn't find any bare cases/anything that was less than $150+

Not bad :) I remember when my father saw it at a flea market, but since i explicitly ordered him to not buy anything, unless it's dirt cheap, he didn't get it...

Well, not like i would've gotten it... It's too big of a pain to mod it...

Still, good luck @LukaP :D

Also, a quick question. Will you be keeping the original look (i seriously like that Silver look, but i don't like those scratches...)? Or will you be painting it mat black (i would do it :))?

This is something im still deciding on. I am thinking about anodizing the inner part black, while keeping the side panels and handles silver.

Changing the back I/O seems like a hell of a job. Does the back plate come off as one whole piece?  anyway good luck luka.

I see :) The sides look like they aren't nearly as scratched as the top (and probably bottom). But, since i'm an extreme beginner (might go to a flee market in the future to buy a cheap case to mod it :D), is there a way to cover those micro scratches on the sides O.o Like some filling O.o

well as long as my measuring is correct, its now merely a matter of finding the best laser/plasma/waterjet cutting place and have it done.

well if i decide on anodizing, then id sand the surface flat beforehand and that would get rid of the scratches. also, the pictures really exaggarate the situation. in person, even now it doesnt look half bad.

So, you're going to remove the Apple logo (it would be awesome to have a gaming PC in a Apple case!) O.o

Yeah, pictures tend to do that, but we all know hoe fast aluminium catches those micro scratches....

Looking forward to this log. Subbed.

I love the look of the G5/ Pre Late-2013 Mac Pro. It's just a stylish case. I hope to do one of these conversions myself one day. You also got this case in pretty good condition, especially for it's age. I have seen people do a conversion with a Mountain Mods motherboard tray before. Are you going to be doing that or fabricate your own?

I have 2 old cases that i can salvage the tray off, and ill try that first, if it doesnt look to crappy ill use it, otherwise go for something like mountain mods yes

youre helping make this happen. so far, donations have accounted for almost enough material to get the back panel. laser time still not accounted for.
