PS VITA, 3DS XL or NVIDIA Shield?

Hey,

I'm looking at buying a hand held console; PS VITA, 3DS XL or NVIDIA Shield. I Can't decide which one will be the best, does anyone have any strong opinions to persuade me in any general direction?

Note: I do have a PC that would support the Game stream on the Shield.

You come here, to the sacred haven of the PC Master Race and ask us to chose between 2 Consoles and one of our own?

Preposterous thinking.

What router do you have/use and how far away from it would you be using a shield. I use a netgear N750(DGND4000) and latency isn't great at 20m ish. Also the usage case for a shield is quite different from PS Vita and DS as they are more equivalent to using a shield for only onboard games, whereas a shield with gamestream extends the available game to most AAA steam games.

Basically: Mario, pokemon etc = 3DS. obscure sony titles = PS VITA.  Android games + Steam = Shield.

3DS = dedicated gaming handheld( overrated imo) some of the good games fire emblem, pokemon, zelder, mario cart and thats it, too casual to my liking

psvita = dedicated gaming handheld(under rated imo) some of the good games persona 4, gravity rush, killzone, virtual last reward, hatume no miku Diva 2, un charted  plays psp and ps1 games and may more( more in depth games it seems)

Shield = streaming device and some android games here and there

lives on

I can't actually access my router at the moment and I can't remember what it is, although it was recently upgraded. I will be sitting around 20m away from it and possibly using it on the move, I.e. the train or bus. I am looking for something for light entertainment.

I can honestly see how the shield is kind of in a different game to the other two handhelds.

Cisco WAP561 is the router I have.

3DS - Good games, even better games coming in the future. Really for casual gaming. Animal Crossing New Leaf, Pokemon, and the Zelda games are some that I recommend.

PS Vita - Never been in depth with it. It seems like it has some good games.

Shield - Never used one, but the game streaming option is fantastic. Android looks like it runs smoothly on it as well. Mainly a mix of hardcore/casual gaming.

Vita - amazing graphics and games, decent battery life, remote play PS games from your PS3.PS4, play old PS1 games, fantastic display, somewhat pocketable

3ds- fun games and console, the 3d is fun (especially on the new unit), games are a little casual for me, but there ARE some great ones - easyily pocketable

Shield - amainzg handheld, very few good android games... emulating other consoles is great (ps1, n64 etc) , pc streaming is decent though I never use it, not pocketable

I agree it's going to come down to what exactly you want from it.

3DS-Do you want to play games that Nintendo offer? I'm personally not a huge fan of Mario and all them, but I still have one. Animal Crossing, Pokemon Y, and Monster Hunter are the only games I have for it.

PS Vita-Looks great, especially the slim version. The only reason that I don't have one is because there aren't that many games for it, plus I don't own a PS3 or 4.

Shield-I am going to buy one here pretty soon actually. Obviously it's only worth it if A) You have a PC that can stream games to it, B)You use it in your house within Wifi range. If you're looking for an on the road mobile console, this probably isn't the one

I owned a 3ds. I hated it (personal preference). Sold it for a vita. It was fun but not many games for it and the games it did have were too expensive to justify the fun of them. So I sold it as well. I would recommend a shield. Though I don't have one, I've used one and it's really great.

My brother has the Vita - Uncharted and Killzone are amazing on it.  But the major problem with the Vita is that there are essentially no AAA games being developed for it.  Everything being released is an overpriced mobile port, indie games, Japanese games, or PS3 ports that really vary in how well they run.  Otherwise you're stuck with PS1, PSP and some PS2 games.  This main failing of the system is entirely on the development side (or lack of) - it's exactly where the original PSP failed.  Don't get me wrong, there are some excellent games out there - Pursuit Force on the original PSP (which we both own) was amazing.  The PSP and Vita are meant to be more serious than the 3DS, but that never really caught on with developers or consumers.  The screen on the original Vita does look amazing though - really sharp and the colours really pop.

I have a 3DS XL, because Pokemon.  The console and games are far more casual, but that's the point.  I feel much more confident carrying it around with me - I don't have to worry about dropping it and cracking the screen - my PSP has a large crack running from the top to the bottom from repeated impacts...  The games it has are great as well - you've got Pokemon, Zelda, Smash Bros. etc.  plus the Zelda N64 remakes and heaps more.  Personally this is my choice - but that's primarily because I'm a Pokemon addict...

Shield is pretty great though and it doesn't face the same development support as the PSP/Vita because it's designed with PC gaming in mind.  Also MS porting Office to Android for free sure ain't a bad thing if you want to use it for more than just gaming.  You can run GB/GBC/GBA/NDS emulators on it and you can get Angry Birds or whatever off Google Play if you're into that sort of thing.  If anything I'd consider getting one if it weren't for the price tag and the fact that I'm waiting for something with Windows 10 so I don't have to deal with silly mobile web browsers and lack of flash player.

Anyway that's just my pros and cons for each system.
