Cheap way to record TV shows I like from my server?

1823alex

I'm running Windows Server 2012 on my DL360 G5 right now and wondering if it is possible to record TV shows I like, Saturday Night Live, Top Gear US + UK versions, etc.? Is it cheap what would I need?

EDIT:

Would I get a card of sorts and then run my Coaxial in to it? The server runs from ethernet.

You can try a capture/TV tuner card.

OT: Why would you even try to download TG US?

US version is ok IMO, UK is definitely better though.

But still, what if you never watch it? it's just a waste of space.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm running Windows Server 2012 also and I use Sickbeard for keeping up to date on my TV downloads. SB usually downloads the new episode before it even airs.

Do I need any special devices for this or just the program? Researching it now...

EDIT: I really like it and I think I figured out the .NZB file thing and stuff, sweet and thank you very much!

You'll need SABnzbd, Sickbeard, a Usenet account and a quality indexer. Now that I have it all set up, works like a charm.

Ya I'm pretty sure it's working Sabnzbd is working on downloading some Top Gear UK episodes right now do you know of anyway to record like 2 shows and have them auto separate from each other into different folders so for instance Top Gear goes to one folder and then another show like Blacklist goes to a different folder?

That part is managed via Sickbeard I believe. What should happen is you set your final destination to be whatever path. Then when the script sabtosickbeard.exe is done with the post processing, it should drop it into the series folder automatically created when you designated the final destination of the file. When you add a show to your SB queue, it automatically creates a folder for the series in the directory you chose.
