Gaming/Content Creation PC Plan [Need Opinions]

My budget is around $1,200 ish range in $USD. A little above or below is fine but I am looking for a decent price to performance ratio.

I am aiming to use this computer for a great gaming experience and content creation/streaming and will be using my 1080p @ 60Hz TV at first, then replacing that with a decent high refresh rate monitor w/G-Sync and pairing that with a small side monitor later down the line.

The peripherals I'm going to use are my simple mouse that I've been using for a pretty long while now and my keyboard I haven't decided what to get yet but I will make sure that I comment what I choose when I make that decision.

This is my first build and I am upgrading from my late 2012 Mac Mini with a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 8 cores, 4 GB 1600 MHz RAM, and Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB graphics... to (just general info) a Intel Core i7 4790K 4.0 GHz Quad-core, 8 GB 1866 MHz RAM, and a Gigabyte GTX 970 4 GB.

Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K 4.0 GHz Quad-core

Motherboard: EDIT -MSI Z97-G45 Gaming LGA 1150

RAM : Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2 X 4 GB) DDR3 1866 MHz

PSU: EDIT -Corsair CSM 750M 750W 80 PLUS GOLD Modular (Purchased)(Might be a little overkill but I want to be able to upgrade later without having to buy another PSU)

GPU: Gigabyte Windforce GTX 970 4 GB (12" length)

Storage: EDIT -Kingston 240 GB SSD V300 + WD 1 TB Blue

Case: Antec GX500 (Already purchased) (Max GPU size 15")

CPU Cooling: Cooler Master Seidon 240M

I need opinions and thoughts about this build, my first one so any tips or suggestions are welcome. I really want the Gigabyte GTX 970 because of the look of the card and I think it may be a more stable overclock if I decide to do that later on due to the 6+8 pin power compared to Zotac's 970 with two 6 pin and the ASUS STRIX 970 with its one 8 pin. So I am still debating on which 970 would be best for me and will not clash too much with the motherboard colors. Also thinking about watercooling the CPU and then overclocking that maybe a few months after having it at stock and get some more money.

Thank you for your time.

Hi There,

To my knowledge if you're going to be doing game creation then you will definitely need more RAM maybe between 16GB - 32GB.

For gaming 8GB is enouth.

I have that memory and i am very happy with it.

Actually 8GB is more than enough for gaming....But for content creation he should get at least 16GB as that does in fact use ALOT of RAM.

Storage: Seagate Hybrid Drive 1 TB MLC/8GB (looking for a SSD but cannot decide which to get first and either have speed or capacity for a few months)

I would recommend the 1TB Samsung EVO @ $389.99.

Okay let me just make this clear, by content creation I do not mean 3D modeling (even though I'm slightly interested in doing that) or anything that hardcore. I mean video editing and streaming. I know that 8 GB is plenty for gaming today and I plan on upgrading to 16 GB later on even though I can go up to 32 GB... but that would go to waste for what I'm using this computer for.

Thank you very much for the comments, keep them coming.

Looks good to me but if you could squeeze a 970 in there, it would be a beast.

On the Hard drive side, spend 5$ more for a WD Blue 1TB, because it is far more reliable.

I know I can fit A "GTX 970" in there but I don't know if the Gigabyte model will have enough clearance or if it will mess with the air flow of the case. A GTX 970 MSI or ASUS or the EVGA ones will fit but i feel that the Gigabyte card looks better, has a more stable 6+8 pin power, and that it is cooler and more quiet. I'd like to hear what others think which 970 is the best choice.

Why not a 1 TB WD Black?

I would recommend the 1TB Samsung EVO @ $389.99.

Haha, yeah, no. I mean it would have the capacity and performance I'd like but at a bigger cost than just alone getting a 128-256 GB SSD for the OS/Games/everyday and a 1 TB Blue or Black or a hybrid for mass storage at half the price of that one EVO with most of the same performance. Thanks for the recommendation but that one part would be a third of my "budget", however loose it may be. If you find any SSD + HDD combinations that may be good, let me know.

Thanks.

One tip that i learned.

Dont go for WD Black, becouse theese days it is about the asame as a WD Blue, it just costs more.

The only thing that you get with the black is a 5 year warranty.

That's a great tip to know, thanks.
