Apple Vs Retailers. War On Nfc Payment Technology.

Source 1: linustechtips.com OP: Ijks Snow

Source 2: finance.yahoo.com

Source 3: slate.com

  • CVS and Rite Aid in the US have stopped accepting Apple Pay

  • no official statement from those companies

  • speculation is that they are developing their own NFC payment software to save the 2-3% on each transaction

  • Tim Cook “It’s a skirmish. Merchants have different objectives sometimes. But in the long arc of time, you only are relevant as a retailer or merchant if your customers love you.”

  • On Saturday, the pharmacies Rite Aid and CVS (both members of the MCX) disabled Apple Pay from their stores, even though they have the compatible equipment that was working when Apple Pay launched last week. They also blocked Google Wallet, a similar system for Android phones that Google launched in 2012

  • MCX happens to be working on its own mobile payments app, CurrentC, which is in beta testing and is expected to launch next year.

  • CurrentC requires you to scan a barcode to make payments, something proved to not be as secure as near-field communication and other encrypted technology used by Apple Pay and Google Wallet.

Apple Watch Os Running On An Iphone

Source 1: linustechtips.com OP: Dayo26

Source 2: theverge.com

Source 3: 9to5mac.com

  • Current iPhone home screen is still the same design as the original iPhone.

  • The Apple Watch home screen is far more fluid, scales to any screen size without looking cramped or spaced out.

  • All your apps are close by, all the time.

  • The new ‘reachability’ feature that makes your screen slide down so you can reach items at the top of your screen is as good as an admission from apple that the current design is not meant for a screen this size.

  • Apple has created an entirely new, modern home screen that is more intuitive, more flexible and adaptive as well. Only time will tell if this design trickles down to the iPhone, but the benefits it brings make it a strong contender for a new face of iOS.

1000 MPH On Land.

Source 1: linustechtips.com OP: Benediction

Source 2: wired.co.uk

Source 3: wired.co.uk

  • Richard Noble is spearheading a project called ‘Bloodhound SSC’.

  • Richard is responsible for the previous land speed records in 1983 and 1997.

  • The problem with land speed records is that drag from air increases with a squared ratio in proportion to the speed.

  • Lockheed's A-12 could cruise at Mach 3, more than 2,000mph, for as long as it had fuel.

  • The Bloodhound SSC’s wheels are solid disks of aluminum, each weighing more than 200lbs. At record-breaking speed, each wheel will become a centrifuge, subjecting the rim to the same G forces scientists use to separate DNA out of cells.

  • At 1,000mph the radial load on each of Bloodhound SSC's wheels will be ~50,000G.

  • It’s disk brakes are only meant to be used under 200mph.

  • The car should reach 800 to 850mph in 2015, and then coming back the following year to hit 1,000mph.

Source 1: linustechtips.com OP: Rafbanaan

Source 2: neogaf.com

Source 3: totalxbox.com

  • “1080p or not 1080p isn’t an interesting question. It is certainly not something I care about in a game” said Alex Hutchinson, Far Cry 4 creative director

  • said this after confirming a target resolution and frame rate of 1080p 30

  • “It feels weird to me that people are cool about playing a sort of retro pixel game, and yet the resolution somehow matters. It’s like: is it fun, is it interesting, is it new, is it fresh, are there interesting questions?”

  • Hutchinson think enthusiasm for high-end visuals is waning

  • “If our thing is ‘woo, the same exact thing you had before, at twice the resolution, instead of a new thing’... A new spin or an evolution, I think is much more interesting.”

  • missing the point - it’s not about “pushing boundaries” it’s about providing a playable experience at 1080p 60fps

Please a "Cash Hack" Tshirt...that would be dandy tasteful ;)

Luke, you are such a babe, only 24ish....man I suddenly feel like an old pig now... xD

That gameport to usb dongle, will not be as good as a new usb based joystick Linus, at least that was my experiance with my old Thrustmaster stick, mapping was dodgy and so was detection too. Also you need to finish the X-Wing campagin, at least the Death Star trench mission, you run it at insanse speeds, instead of the x-wing going at the bog standard 100 you run at like 400 instead, and it is like a very challanging testing ground run, just even more fun/hard

So Rick Snyder is an asshat.  He signed the law regarding Tesla not being able to sell in private showrooms in Michigan.  I don't know what people expected when electing the former CEO of Gateway computers.  This whole thing comes as a slap to the face as he originally ran with the "Vote for the Nerd" slogan.  Geek/Nerd wouldn't so quickly shove something as technologically awesome as Tesla out of Michigan.

I know these kind of podcasts are mostly meant to be listened to, not watched, but the two of you constantly touching your faces gets a bit distracting.

They are not CNN grade anchors who have the utmost professionalism.

They are a couple of under 30 year old enthusiasts doing a show on their own time at their own cost on a Friday.

They can do a lot more than touch their faces and I wouldn't really care. It's free content, while well done, and they owe us nothing.

Face touching has to be the height of pedantic complaints.

Question considering how you went ballistic about "consoles get upgrade".

AMD factories just move to 20nm process manufacturing APUs making them cooler/cheaper and you manage to spin it in such strange way ?
Do you realise that consoles of previous generations had multiple revisions with different "CPUs" as well ?
Good lord talk about sounding like a classical "PCmasterrace selfmasturbator" jerk for no reason.

Other than that great informative show as usual, but for some reason every time consoles are touched you guys go nuts spreading FUD better than tabloids.

If you hate console gaming with such burning passion for some reason - just don't speak about them or at least get facts straight to not look so uninformed.

You're right, I'm sorry I attacked them so viciously by saying that it's a bit distracting.

Do you always format your posts so that they'd take up more space than they need to?

I really love the show, I have watched all of them from the beginning. However, I miss the afterparty being uploaded. I am a college student in a different time zone. I rarely get to watch the show live, and usually watch the archive while doing homework or cleaning my dorm. It would love to see the afterparty uploaded on youtube. I feel like I am missing out on interesting/cool content.

A little late in the game here but............... was this the WAN Show with the little bit about blocking adware?.................... HARD/OCP......... if you go to their site and you try and read an article a box pops up wanting you to disable your ad blocking software..................I DON'T GO THERE ANY MORE. It's my choice to block adware/tracking software............ not anybody's business but mine where I go or what I do.............. and I also NEVER click on anything on any site if I can help it. If the ad isn't in plain site with the information they want you to read............... it doesn't get read. They paid the site for nothing.

Probably not, semiconductor fabs need to be very clean, so they try to not have visitors inside the clean room. My guess will be graphics card/motherboard factories.
