Hard drive possibly dying?

So I was playing cs go for about couple hours when suddenly game just started jittering and freezing a bit every couple of seconds. Well I shut dowb cs go. That caused the whole pc freeze up for a solid 1-2 minutes and after that finally opened up task manager. Nothing seemed out of place so I continud until it started happening again and now it's veen going on for around an hour. Before powering down I noticed that the hdd LED kept turning off whenever the pc would freeze. I can also hear the drive keep that regular hdd noise whenever the freeze happened. This creates the question if my hdd is about to puff some smoke in a glorious way? It has never done this before and I reformatted about 4 months ago so it software shouldn't be the problem. I'm using windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

So to those of you who have experienced a hdd failure: in your opinion, how close am I from the moment when my hdd is just gonna shove it's meat wagon to my browney town and take my primary work related files (I do have a backup) with it?

P.S. Sorry for any typos, wrote this on my phone as I don't dare to open my pc for now until I've gotten a backup plan incase the worst happens

Download and install HDTune or WDDiags. Either one would be fine to test the drive for bad sectors.

Deciding what to put in my sig is too much of a task for me.

download CrystalDiskInfo and run it. if it says "Good" in the health status, you're good.

More info: What I forgot to mention last night was that if I try to do anything it's either reaaaally slow to start up or wont start up at all. Can't even open a browser. So I haven't been able to download any of those programs. Any thoughts?

Well both crystaldisk and hdtune threw up the 05 and C5 error but hd tune also showed up c4 and crystaldisk gave me c6. Sooo the situation seems pretty critical, huh?

You report the post to delete it.

Anyway, the fact that there are relocated sectors means that there are physical bad sectors. In fact, I'd replace an HDD immediately when SMART reports any warnings. So yeah, create a disk imgae of it to some external drive and get a new one...

Not exactly; SMART isn't a definitive answer, more of a guideline.

From experience SMART will trip as bad after the drive has been burned alive and sold for crack money.
