Suggestions for $60 USD to Spend?

No_Thought

I've got $60 in my Paypal wallet that I want to spend on something, but I'm at a loss. Part of me says save the money, but the other part says use it for its intended purpose :)

My build is shown in my signature and I would love any suggestions. I'm open to any upgrade really (though I don't think a $60 gpu would be up my alley).

Also I don't know if this is the proper place to post... Sorry for my newbieness

If you don't know what to do with it, just save it.

Otherwise, buy some Steam games :)

I would suggest getting a small SSD for Windows and your programs. You will be blown away by the speed.

I may spend a little extra because I've heard good things about the 840 series. I've got this on promotion for $75 usd.

I have two 840s.  Well.. I guess you could say four.

A 250GB in my MacBook Pro (configured as a fusion drive).   A 1TB.   And two 500GB's that are OEM and don't look like 840s, but that's exactly what they are.

They're all impressive.  I like them all.  If I need more SSDs, I'd buy more from Samsung.

Get the either the 840 evo or pro.  One of those will be great for you.  If you do get the evo then make sure you dothe firmware update and you will be fine otherwise the pro is great.

Well like the 840 pro does 550 as far as i know. Evo probably does about 400-500.

You sure you aren't capped at SATA 1 or something?

SATA 1 was capped at ~120 Mb/s iirc, and SATA 2 at 250 Mb/s, while SATA 3 is more or less 560 Mb/s (keep in mind the theoretical speeds are 150/300/600 MB/s respectively).

Meaning if anything he is on a SATA 3Gb/s port.

That would explain why he was getting such low speeds. He must have been capped at Sata 2.

That would be the most likely reason, but not the only one. It is also possible that there is a BIOS/UEFI setting on his board making his SATA 3 ports run at SATA 2 speeds (I know my 8560w laptop has such a setting), or could also be he has a faulty SSD or cable (being much less likely than the wrong port or BIOS setting).

Yeah. But I have an Ultra Plus myself and just couldn't figure out why his was just so freaking slow...

Good to know (or rather, learn) these things from others ;)
