Power Supply Hunt.

Dive5885

So I found out the Corsair AX1200 for $120  isn't available at my local Frys anymore..

So now I need to start over again and find a new power supply.

I need it to power 3 : 7950's.

What I looked at  : Seasonic , EVGA , Corsair , Enermax , Lepa , NZXT , Thermaltake , Cougar

My budget is $140 - $150.

Thanks!

Intel Core I7 7820X | Asus Rampage VI | Gigabyte RX 580 XTR | 32GB Crucial Ballistix | NZXT Kraken X62

ADATA XPG 256GB PCIe| Cosmos C700P CM | Lepa MaxPlatinum 1050W

Hopefully it can run on 1KW, a PCPP link for your build would be a bit of a helping hand.

I wouldn't recommend the rosewill supply. I know OEM is key when it comes to PSUs but I don't think any of Rosewill's supplies are higher than tier 5.

According to PCPP my system uses 895 watts.

Superflower is one of THOSE OEMs. Give them enough money and they'll make a decent PSU like the G2/P2. Give them very little and they'll come out with something like ass.

Not to mention my go-to list for PSU tiers has Rosewill as a whole in tier 5 but it is a few years out of date so....

My go-to PSU list:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?108088-Official-XS-Power-Supply-Ranking-Phase-I

Looking at T'sH list they have it at tier 2. So it's a pretty decent one by the looks of it.

I think I'd rather pay a bit more for a tier 1 supply with a 10 year warranty with a brand that will likely honour the warranty rather than a tier 2 supply with a 7 year warranty that I've barely heard of.

The Rosewill Capstone 1000-M is based on the Super Flower Golden Green platform internally (like the PC Power and Cooling MKIII 1200, NZXT Hale90, Kingwin Lazer Gold, etc). It's a solid unit, at an excellent price ($90 after MIR), and has a 7 year warranty.

Edit: the reason why Rosewill was consider "Tier 5" at one point in time was due to that they had initially sold poorly made PSUs from a company like Deer; however, they have been selling some excellent units for quite a while now.In fact, their Tachyon line is based on the same, exact platform that is consider "Tier 1" on that list.

Interestingly enough, they had put  Delta Electronics as Tier 4 at one point in time... >>

The Rosewill Capstone is based off Superflower's Golden Green HX. It is a very good psu.

That list is from 2006 and is way out of Date. It also has a lot of nonsense in it.

If you've barely heard of it, you might need to get around more. Rosewill is Newegg's house brand.

Well I went for the Enermax/Lepa G1600.

Got it for $150 and yes its overkill but I couldn't pass on a good deal.

It also got fantastic reviews from JonnyGuru , .tweaktown , Guru3D , techpowerup , KitGuru and HARDOCP
