Depends what your friends play. They are both replayable, but if your friends all play Borderlands and you're stuck in Civ then you're screwed. And vice versa.

I own Civ BE and am a huge fan of it I already have over 60 hours on the game, but like the Prequal it has similar elements to CIV 5. Personally I would get CIV because there is definitely more play time to be had in that game.

More hours really depends on you. If you're a huge fan of Civ-style gameplay, you'll definitely get more hours out of BE, if not, you'll get more out of BL. But, if you want to play something that is mechanically similar, but thematically different, I've heard that Beyond Earth is pretty good (not really a co-op game imo) and if you loved Borderlands 2 or you want good co-op play (which it sounds like you do), get the Pre-Sequel. I heard it feels like an expansion to Borderlands 2 and doesn't really add much other than the oxygen system though.

I should add that I haven't played either, just watched a few reviews, read up on opinions, and talked about them with friends (though, I have played both Civ 5 and BL2).

wait what? oO

i never really enjoyed 'wait for your turn' games, if you can enjoy them it means you already have one of the civilizations so if you enjoyed them why not buy the latest?

same thing goes for borderlands.

buy both , don't have the money for it? buy the kind of gameplay you enjoy the most first, after new year you can probably buy the other one

at the moment, borderlands the ps has next to no endgame. i went back to bl2 until dlc is released. Only 1 raid boss, and thats only the final mission boss.

I used to think that but you can never stop trying, I didnt like turn based games but it does depend on the game, i dont like Civ games, but i enjoyed playing XCOM E.U.  I played Borderlands after playing Fallout 3, it just seemed like a huge downgrade to me. I liked the story and the feeling of Fallout 3, the actual need to scavange for survival felt more natural in that enviroment.

I'd say don't buy anything Anthony Burch was part of , so no borderlands, but then again they are both basically game priced dlc, and BL PSQ sold enough at this point that Burch is probably going to keep working there, so which ever one is more fun

i got beyond earth yesterday. being a veteran of civ 5 i recommend you buy civ 5 with the brave new world DLC. imo its a better game than beyond earth plus it has great mod support that gives it almost endless playability. i recommend a mod like "red ww2 mod", it adds a lot to the game imo
