780ti GPU water cooled ONLY, but i love the cover :C

Hi, i will make the water cooling of my Galaxy GTX 780TI, but there are not much options in my country (Argentina), so i can only water cool the GPU of my graphic card. I will use the XSPC RayStorm GPU block, and (as far as i know) i will get almost the same performance a full cover block can do. But i love the default cover, and the turbine.like fan, so i was thinking if i can leave it there (as im not using a full cover), and get something like this:

G-Master_Hydro-GK3_1024x615.jpg

The thing is, i dont really know if this can be made (i never disassemble it), so PLEASE PLEASE help me with this people :C

THNX in regards, and sorry for my english.

You can do it, but if you were to go with a block, you'd have to have a pump, some kind of fitting that doesn't interfere with the top of the shroud ecc... you better of just buy an asetek based cooler (aio) and mount it like in the picture. It's not that hard to do.

It should be possable. You just need to mod a few things inorder to make it work.

Oh, i forgot to say, im water cooling the whole system, so yeah i will have the pump, and.. i really didn't think about the fittings, i know the gpu has a pretty big dissipator, so i think i can manage to fit the fittings in there xD

If you're water cooling the whole system why not just get a water block for it?

Also you realize that the fittings protrude from the water block right?

Im not getting a full cover for the graphic card because i can't get it in my country xD (i would be waiting at least 6-8 months for it).

And yes, i know they will protude, that's my greater concern. But if this represents a REAL problem i will just take the whole cover away (what one is supossed to do anyway).

  • 4 months later...

so i was looking in to water cooling my HOT 780ti and i found this post here ^^ well i got modding and i did just like the pic shows ^^ only with 240m rad :P

i started to shave off the extra ally on the gpu ram plate and it took me forever to do basically nothing as i didnt have any tools here so i went to an-auto shop and gave him the plate and told him where and how to cut ^^ after that i went back home and i cleaned it up then when came time to apply the water block i just used some zipties as many has done before and let me tell you its SHIT ... good thing i found a way to use the old cover to jam it in place . anyways the card can return to air cooling with 0 functionally loss as its basically stock still with all the screw holes intact . anyways my temps where on air at stock clock speed where 870 and i saw it go as high as 910 on its own BUT it did go back fast ... anyways the temps where 85~87c when gaming same goes to burn testing but i didnt notice the speed back then but im guessing even lower than the gaming session  ... anyways with water and with crappy fans running at very low im getting max 70c now with OC up to 1250mhz !!!! its not over even increasing the Voltage i just added 280+ on the offset and the card did the rest and i dont want to go more for now as those numbers are scary :S you know being first day and all ^^

PC Specs: Intel 4930K OC @4.3Ghz + Cooler Master seidon 240m with Noctua fans , running on Asus Rampage Formula IV, 32GB Kingston Beast 2400Mhz, GTX 780ti + GTX 560ti, EVGA 1600W supernova p2, Kingston HyperX 3K 240GB SSD (OS/Windows 8.1) Kingston SSD v300 120GB (games I'm playing) Samsung 830 128GB SSD (video scratch disk) - x1 TOSHIBA SSHD 1TB - x2 Samsung 2TB HDD-WD 2TB+x2 1TB Green- x1 Seagate 1TB, BL RW drive + 5.25" USB 3.0+multi SD reader, ALL in CoolerMaster Cosmos 2. x6 screens.Razer Blackwidow ultimate 2013 , Razer Deathstalker Ultimate , Razer Orbweaver ,Razer Mamba 2012.
