Samsung HD103SJ Not working with Sata 6Gbps ports

WerkHeads tDames
Go to solution Solved by WerkHeads tDames,

Solved it by getting a Purex external case. Thanks for your help, guys.

So, I just upgraded my motherboard to the Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P and my Samsung 1TB won't read on newer SATA ports at all so it's not the HDD failing. Is it some type of way to get it to read? I got games, beat sessions etc on it too.

Did you assign the hdd a drive letter in Disk Management?

Not showing in bios or that either. I don't know if I can config the sata ports to work with the older ones

Is the drive spinning? Are you sure the cables are snugly connected?

It says I have the latest. On my ASUS board, It had a switch between Sata 3Gbps and Sata 6Gbps. If it was on 6, it would click a few times and not be read by bios. If I put it on 3, then It would read perfectly fine. Idk if its a option on a Gigabyte board

Well the Sata ports are backwards compatible you just wouldn't benefit from 6gbps. I guess the only thing I can really think of is to make sure the sata cable is working properly. try using a different one. the drive will still spin up from the power cable but obviously it won't be read by your pc.

Edit: also you can use the windows tool to check for hard drive errors. Something may have happened when reinstalling it some how that damaged it or something.

Just double checked it and it wasnt running so i unplugged the sata and it started to run. It's a lost cause to get it to work. I guess these weren't made to run off newer hardware. I guess I should look for a external enclosure now
