The obvious solution is to buy one used, just make sure to clean it when you get it.

I pretty much buy most things used now (expect for things like components that are likely to fail); Microsoft have always been good with the xbox warranty & repairs service, so even if it does go wrong in the future it won't be a huge disaster.
