How to arrange graphic cards.

Dive5885

So I'm putting my new system together and I'm not sure how I should arrange the gpu's.

One is a 8 pin + 6 pin and I feel like it should be in the middle or the top..

How would you guys arrange them?

Yes this is a serious question.

Thanks!!

They're all matching cards (when it comes down to like Radeon HD 7950)?

I think you can run a 7970 with one (which is what you seem to be doing, please correct me if I'm wrong), but I think leave them like that.

The bottom card is a 7950.. Which is strange because its 8 + 6 pin.

Thats how I'd do it. Give the more power-hungry card the air it needs.

Wouldn't the top card be the power hungry one ?

Really? Does it say that when it's running by itself? Irregardless, I still say run them like in that picture.

I haven't got the system to run yet.

I need to get the power supply this weekend but that's what the part number says when I looked it up.

Strange thing is the card code name is ''Monica'' and all cards with that name have a 8 + 6 Pin

Two of the cards are Sapphire 7950's and one is a AMD reference 7950 made by Sapphire.

Irregardless is sort of a word but it really isn't. The word you're looking for is regardless.

No. The position of the cards don't affect the amount of power the card takes. The power is being drawn primarily from the 6 and 8pin cables and not the pcie slot.

Seems to be either a 7950/7970 ES flashed to a 7950 BIOS, Tahiti XT (instead of Tahiti Pro, basically 7970 core with 7950 BIOS). But most of those are just ES cards.

You shouldn't have any at all. I'm able to put my GTX 480 ES in SLI with a regular 480, and the same applies here.

Alright cool!

So how would I set the clock speeds on the cards to be the same.?

I know both Sapphires run at 850Mhz and boost to 925Mhz and the AMD reference runs at 800Mhz I think..

You should be able to sync them up when you enable CF.

That's what I was thinking.

So what would happen to the two cards that boost to 925Mhz and the one that doesn't?

Am I going to see issues because of that?

When cf is enabled, they simply don't operate at different speeds unless there isn't anything intensive going on and the gpus go into a low power mode called zerocore.

They do it automagically, according to the lowest clocked card. (ie, if the slowest card is running at 802MHz, all of the cards will run at 802MHz).
