Poll would you rather gpu or cpu performance to increase exponentially in the next 5 years?

LemonSpice

Which would you rather. Also the cpu's would not change price and intel and amd would become actual competitors again. You can only choose one

devs arent even utilizing todays cpu power... so gpu

GPU; we need (I want) the horsepower to run 4k games on entry-level cards.

mepower?

CPU if it means actual exponential growth.

That would mean say a phone with a CPU as powerful as a laptop.

Of course it will never happen

AMD honestly should increase performance on their CPU's.

But GPU's from Intel are should be an important goal in the present and future.

There's noting wrong with AMD's CPU performance especially considering the price point. It's just that Intel's motive of fewer, more powerful cores is better for gaming at the same price points as AMD chips with more cores that are individually weaker.

i dont know, CPUs would allow day to day tasks to get more complex, but a GPU would be modular, as in you dont need a new mobo, cpu, ram combo, but then the pcie might not be good enough and youd need it anyways.

Yep but I just want a little more then one option for workstations. :)

I'd say GPU but also I want to see DECENT improvements with CPU's as each new architecture/refinement's are released. This 8-10% improvement is crap.

CPU, because most programs only use the CPU for processing, not the GPU.

I would rather have fast everything rather than just fast gaming.

I say CPU because AMD is starting to fall behind again. Now that the Pentium G3258 outperforms all the lower end stuff from AMD, the only CPU that could really be worth (my) time would be the 6300 - I still would rather have it than a Core i3 (even though the i3 is seriously underrated and really quite powerful) - but apart from that, Intel is just wiping the floor in many ways. Unless you need the 8 cores on the cheap (FX-8350) then an i5 is probably a better investment.

I vote GPU.  Nobody seems to be designing anything to take advantage of all the cores CPUs have now anyways.

I'm not. Means more wastage. If my GPU is too poor to run a new game but my CPU is fine (something that happens more often then not) then you're wasting money investing in a new CPU. Also, the additional heat output and power requirements.

no I want the CPU to work as both not have separate GPUand CPU cores inside it unlike with APU's

The only reason i said CPU is because think that if we had more horsepower, then physics based games, complicated AI, and productivity software would get a boost:D

GPU. Not even my Q6600 can bottleneck a 970, i think...
