Explorer.exe related lagg/freeze

Maffe811

So my computer has "hickups" everytime explorer.exe have to do things.

  • I hit the start menu, type chrome, nothing shows up, then i remove all the text and write chrome again, it finds it instantly.
  • Im browsing and want to save a picture, right click > save as, computer freezes for 5 sec-ish before the save dialog comes up.
  • Explorer.exe can sometimes be sluggish in navigating.

I have a bit of a wierd harddisk setup because i have various backups on various drives so one is split cause some reason i don't remember.

C drive is 240GB of SSD

D drive is 90ishGB of HDD1
X drive is a 850ishGB of HDD1
Z drive is 1900ishGB of HDD2

Also currently have an external hdd connected but the issue is there without the external hdd aswell.
SSD is a kingston something, HDDs are both WD Greens.
And before someone asks why greens, one came with my old pc, other was on sale.

Im asuming its the HDDs cause they always seem to spin up on most of the hickups, but ask and i shall deliver any more info if its needed.
Thanks for all help and for your time.

have you checked the drives with crystal disk info? it can show the status of the drives and their conditions.... also maybe try untrashing your pc with something like ccleaner, that can often make things faster and more fluid. In crystal disk you can also see weather garbage collection on your ssd is working (TRIM) if it is not you have to activate it. If trim is deactivated it often makes things slower.
