ASUS z97-PRO Asmedia USB Port Issues

Ok, I've been trying and trying but to no avail have I been able to find a solution so I've turned here in hope that someone may have experienced this or know what is causing my problem.

I recently had to get a new PC due to my i7 920 dying (which was unfortunate since it was an amazing chip still), and it all arrived nicely in the mail so I set it up on my workbench and tested everything, put in my intel SSD only (still only HDD currently) all works great. Awsome! So I take it apart and build it inside the case, install a fresh copy of Windows 7 64 bit and proceed to install drivers from the ASUS website. Everything was working great, overclocking went great followed by testing for 48 hours and thankfully all was eventually stable and prime95/cinebench temps were fine. So now I start installing my applications; plugging in more than just my mouse and keyboard. All works. So now I proceed to shutdown happy and glad I have a working PC again and go to sleep.

Next morning I wake up, power on the PC and find that 2 devices don't power on....ok? Try replugging the devices... nothing. So I shutdown again rebooted and same thing, so I restart into BIOS and pick up my motherboard manual again reading page after page making sure I had not missed anything. Decided to try a BIOS update and undo all my overclocks and what not, and to my surprise the 2 asmedia ports started again and were fine for the full day, even after a few restarts just to make sure. So again, I was happy I fixed it, shutdown went to sleep. Nope. Same thing again in the morning, no BIOS settings changed.

So now I tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling, here I got the error saying "the asmedia asm104x usb 3.0 host controller was not found" and the installation aborted. Restarted same thing happened again. So I shutdown, replugged all the connections again thinking something may be loose. Powered back on and still no devices, so I tried reinstalling the asmedia drivers again and this time it worked and no error came up and the devices came back on. What? Now this is confusing and this is where I am at. Every time I leave my PC shutdown for an extended period of time, I have to power on, uninstall the driver and shutdown power back on and install the driver again and the devices work again (restart doesn't work or I get that host controller not found error on install). Though today I've noticed if I boot up, then shutdown, replug my devices and power on they work and I don't have to reinstall the driver.

I've also tried drivers from station-drivers.com for a more recent asmedia driver and it hasn't helped. I've also played around in device manager and power management settings in the windows CP with any of the power options turning off the device to save power and it hasn't helped. It's really annoying since I use all 6 USB ports and the Intel USB 3.0 are completely fine, no issues at all. It's only if my PC is shutdown for a long time, I can shutdown for 5 minutes boot up and it's the USB is still fine.

Please someone know what's going on so I can cure this headache, I'm really hoping I don't need to RMA.

Here is some of the spec's of the new PC if for some reason someone needs to know:

Intel i7 4790k Devil's Canyon.

ASUS z97-PRO Motherboard (Not the wifi/bluetooth enabled one)

Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) Dominator Plat RAM

2x Gigabyte 780ti's in SLi

Corsair AX860i PSU

reinstall Intel and asmedia usb drivers, and then reflash the BIOS. did this and it was fixed for me (using Rampage V Extreme). hope it helps ( and this is actually what an Asus Technician told me to do).

You may also want to try posting your question to this sub forum: http://linustechtips.com/main/forum/46-troubleshooting/ .  There might be some more people with expertise in your situation watching that thread.

Ye I asked someone to move it over which it appears to be now :P

Hasn't worked I'm afraid. Powered up this morning, USB devices weren't powered up or detected so as such I uninstalled the driver again (including intel this time) and shutdown. Booted back up reinstalled both the drivers, rebooted into BIOS and reflashed with the latest BIOS again, powered back up USB still working and so I shut it down and left the house for a few hours came back and same again, no USB devices until after shutdown and power up again. I've sent a mail to the ASUS support team as well to see if they can shine any light on this.

sorry to hear that, it may be a specific device driver issue rather than the motherboard, IDK why it didnt work out, but if what Asus tells u doesnt work, ask for an RMA.

Not when I'm having an issue with my ports. I just flashed my bios and reinstalled the controller's driver and it's working atm. I'm going to wait for a while just to make sure it's still ok tomorrow.
