Wireless adapter problems

GM07

My knowledge is relatively basic when it comes to networking so bare with me. So about two weeks ago I moved my rig and as a result the ethernet cable wouldn't do so I picked up a TP Link 150Mbps Wireless N PCI Adapter (TL_WN751ND). After using the adapter I have had a couple of issues, issues which I didn't have when using the ethernet cable. First of all the signal strength seems quite low (only 3 bars) even though I am only in the next room from the router (about 2.5-3m away to be precise). What could be interfering with the signal?

Furthermore I am also experiencing some connectivity issues, regularly each day while browsing the internet seems to disconnect even though I am still connected to the router. The signal strength also seems to drop to 1 or 2 bars when this happens. I had a look at the drivers and uninstalled those which were automatically installed by Windows, which were Microsoft drivers. I then installed TP Link drivers (from 2012) for Windows 7 64-bit even though my OS is Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit, as there weren't any Windows 8 relevant drivers. Could the connectivity issues be caused by the fact that the drivers aren't compatible or maybe could it be something else?

Any help would be appreciated!

My guess is it could be the channel interfering with other routers so check which channel is best suited for your needs , the less routers use the channel the better , linus made a video about this here
