There was a firmware update, that problem is no longer an issue.

There was a firmware update, that problem is no longer an issue.

Sadly we have to wait until mid November to know if the EVO's firmware problems are truly fixed. As an owner of an 840 EVO I want to be optimistic, but only time will tell.

The original problem was with read speeds slowing down dramatically for files older than four weeks, and they also had a weird thermal throttling problem that effected read speeds.

I am also an 840 evo owner, I have to say I never experienced the issue in the first place.

Well your lucky, I've had mine as my OS drive and could definitely tell the difference in speeds after the firmware update.

If you kept writing over older files then you wouldn't have noticed any slow down.

Mine has been my OS/Program drive since minute one. No slowdowns to report. My last test on it was showing very similar results to when I first installed it. Heck, I haven't even don't the firmware update yet. Just haven't gotten around to it.

There have been reports that a couple people lost some data on their drive after the update, just like any other firmware update theirs always a chance.

I didn't lose anything but backing up important files would be a good idea before you do the update.

The 840's should drop in price slightly due to the 850's, however Amazon does a fairly good job of price matching rather quickly.
