Buying new Gaming PC

Kejimuna

Hi so i'm new to this forum and planning to buy a new gaming PC around Christmas take into account that this is in New Zealand Dollars, since I come from there. All I want is a decent system that can run majority of the games on the market currently with no problems.

Current System i'm looking at: http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=WKSPB2309&name=PB-2309-Upgrade-Box-Intel-NEW-Haswell-I7-4790-Quad
No windows included

What i'm asking you is, is this cost efficient? Is it worth for what it is? What would you replace, and with what?
What I want to know specifically is this cost effective, Is it worth the price tag? and what would you replace, and with what?

Alter it and post suggestions

In terms of a monitor i'm not 100% sure what I want so post suggestions. For peripherals just need a keyboard, i'm thinking about a Cherry mx brown or blue keyboard.

If you are only going to be gaming switch the cpu to a i5 4690(K edition and a z97 motherboard if you want to overclock) and spend the money you save on a better graphics card which makes more of a difference in gaming. Something more like this

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($319.00 @ PC Force)
Memory: Kingston Fury White Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($134.05 @ Aquila Technology)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Superclocked ACX Video Card  ($679.95 @ Computer Lounge)
Total: $1278.00
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Then add your case and change things if you don't like them.
This is a nice IPS, 1080p, 60hz, monitor: http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/part/lg-monitor-22mp55hqp
I don't really know much about keyboards so won't recommend one.

Ok so I think I want to to build my first computer, so I'm scraping the idea of buying the pre-built one and will try to build something on the line of SirBobson's suggestion.

What I need now is some assistance with this daunting task any guidance would be much appreciated.

Watch Linustechtips vids first and see how easy it is. If you still got questions come back and all will help you . Don't mind the components just look at the general building process.

Can you give another alternative for the motherboard and a suggestion on a case also. One more thing I need to ask is since you've suggested a CPU cooler do I need to buy thermal paste for it? And is there any use for the stock fan?

Can you give another alternative for the motherboard and a suggestion on a case also. One more thing I need to ask is since you've suggested a CPU cooler do I need to buy thermal paste for it? And is there any use for the stock fan?

Motherboard: This one doesn't support SLI - if you were wanting to do that in the future don't choose this. http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-z97anniversary

This one has a red and black colour scheme and does support SLI. http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz97xsli

I realise that as the mobo wasn't priced when you add when the build may go over budget. Would you like me to remake it?

Case: It is hard to recommend a case as there are so many factors to it, colour scheme, pricing, etc. so i'll make a few recommendations. Cheap: NZXT Source 210 - fairly simple, i              think it comes in black or white    Bit more money: NZXT Phantom 410 - I like the deisgn   Even more money: NZXT H440 - Very clean look but doesn't have any drive bays -            don't know if this is a problem to you ir not - it also has a nice large window and has sound dampening foam or something to make it quieter.     You can spend more money on            cases but I'm not bothered to list more and I don't think you would spend that much on one in this budget. As you can probably tell I like NZXT a lot but there are many other                good manufacturers. Pretty much anything on here http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/parts/case/#u=1&f=2

Thermal Paste: I believe that the CM hyper 212 evo does include thermal paste however it may not be as good as a one you buy. It will still work but a bought one may work a little                              better. So no you do not need to buy thermal paste, but can if you want to.

Use for stock fan:I'm assuming you mean the stock cpu cooler/fan. I can't think of any uses for it, but do keep it in case you have to return the cpu under warranty or something.

Your not the only NZXT fan, I also like NZXT they look very clean but they seem a bit expensive... I'll take a look at the other stuff you've suggested, but for now I'm not picky with colour schemes.

I love NZXT cases but most of them are rather pricey. :(

Maybe I'll just get a corsair or a NZXT phantom 410 if I have leftover.

Ok, this is what I got so far I need a different PSU since I can't find anyone that sells them within NZ, and I might need to find cheaper parts for some things, and still haven't included a case...

Not 100% sure on monitor and keyboard so those are variable.

Just found out that EVGA are sending out free backplates for GTX 970 until 9 November, i'm not sure if I should buy the GPU now and buy the other parts later, or just hold out and buy everything together and buy the backplate.
