Bad ping when others use my internet (INTERNET PROBLEMS)

Rant lol   xD

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OMFG! Fuck chrome. I was sooooo close to finishing this post when fucking chrome fucking crashes! I had to fucking write everything all over again.

FUCK CHROME! Seriously. I fucking uninstalled chrome after that happend. I almost threw my macbook on the ground.

I spent so much time writing on it to make sure that i got the best help i could get.

AND THEN IT FUCKING CRASHES!!!!!!

I am still fucking raging. If this word document crashes i’m gonna fucking cry.

SERIOUSLY FUCK MY LIFE!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway, enough of that.

So i have problems. When i normally play games i have around 90 ping and it’s pretty stable. I’m gonna use tf2 as an example but this applies to every game (almost).

So like i said, 90 ping normally, but when someone else uses the internet my ping goes insane. It can go to 500 ping.

I tried things like watching a youtube video while i’m on a server in tf2 and my ping goes to 500 ping. If i have 2 youtube videos it’s about 800 ping. It’s the same way with websites. When loading up a website it starts lagging a lot. Ping usually goes up to 300.

My internet seems to prioritize downloading for example downloading a game from steam, then stuff like youtube and twitch, then normal websites, and at the very bottom gaming.

Can anyone tell me why it does this and how to make my internet prioritize gaming?

--- Stuff that might help you help me ---

  • I receive 3,57 mbit/s and send 1,04 mbit/s however when i download a game from steam it says that i’m downloading the game at 500 kbit/s.
  • I’ve tried using both a cable and wireless but it doesn’t make a difference.
  • I’ve tried getting a new router but it doesn’t work
  • I’ve tried getting a new modem but it doesn’t work
  • My internet is not slow, it’s about normal speed. When I’m on youtube I can watch videos in 1080p with no problems what so ever.
  • When I’m the only one on my router using the internet I can play games just fine with around 90.
  • I have no viruses
  • I’ve tried this with different computers and it’s the same.

So what I want to know is how can I make my internet prioritize gaming and not videos. And why I get insanely shit ping when I just watch 1 video on youtube or something like that. Please let me know, this is really annoying…

1: You're using a Mac (Don't blame Chrome, Chrome Master-race) :P

2: Your connection may be 3.57Mbit/s, but re-read the download speed. It may actually be downloading at around about 500Kbyte/s, not bits (Which is around about right).

3: That type of connection cannot sustain videos and gaming at the same time.

4: You will need a Modem/Router that has QoS settings, which mine doesn't. Having a connection with a max of 1.7Mbit/s sucks without QoS (-_-).

"Quality of Service" - This will allow you to prioritise games over YouTube to keep a steady ping. It should be located in your Modem/Router. Find the manual for your Modem/Router (Should be the Router, but I don't know because mine are bundled into one unit). Go through it and find out whether it has QoS settings. Google'ing will also suffice, and will most likely be a faster alternative.

If you don't know how to access the settings for the router, this can also be found on Google (It will give you an IP address to go to in your web-browser). These are usually router specific so make sure to find your exact Brand and Model.

while swear words are not directly banned on LTT, the overuse of them is.
Please edit this post to not include that many swear words.
Thanks,
