Pope Finally Accepts Evolution and the Big Bang as Realities!

Wow! For hundreds of years, many aspects of modern science have been outright denied by the Catholic Church. Now,  two of the hottest debates ever in human history have been put to rest. I thought that this was worthy to be placed in the tech news category as many other "sciencey" things end up here. Now for the news!!!!!!!!!!

 

This is his exact speech:  (It has English subtitles if you were wondering)

 

 

"He created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfillment. Francis said the beginning of the world was not "a work of chaos" but created from a principle of love. He said sometimes competing beliefs in creation and evolution could co-exist."

 

 

 

 

God is not a divine being or a magician, but the Creator who brought everything to life," the pope said. "Evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve."

This has probably ruined some devout Catholic's lives. I know I would be a little upset too if everything that I had once believed in me crashing down all around me. What needs to be clarified though is that Francis isn't supporting the Theory of Evolution, but rather accepting it as a truth in an attempt to merge the discoveries of modern science and the age old traditions of religion together as one entity. The Big Bang, on the other hand, was said to have been created for its exact purpose by god himself. The Pope is accepting them and not flat out supporting these ideas as many say he is.

And that's why pope Francis is the best thing the Catholic Church has had in years. It's important that this has happened, it shows the development of the church and how it is coming into the understanding and acceptance of the modern world.

This pope is cool. But big bang and evolution are just theories too.

 

You are absolutely right! This story has been under great fire by Christian religious leaders for that exact reason.

He doesn't accept evolution or the big bang, what he is talking about is intelligent design which is not science.

 

But big bang and evolution are just theories too.

 

It is not a theory, it's a scientific theory just like the theory of gravity and the germ theory, among many other examples.

Lol everyone yelling "finally" not seeing that they're taking it the wrong way, humans didn't suddenly exist, they've come to over thousands if not hundreds of thousands if not millions of years. He isn't "Accepting" these things, he's attempting to merge the two to make religion still seem relevant in a world where things are actually explained by fact and not superstitious beliefs (i.e. cave men in a cave shaking sticks at lightning and worshiping it as the wrath of god)

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I think that a lot of different Christian churches have at least in part accepted evolution, it's just that you hear from the vocal idiot minority like WBC and the fundamentalists way more than the moderates.

As a Christian myself, it's a good thing to hear. I really like this pope. I really do think that science and religion can go together, it's just that some people take the bible literally and that's when sanity goes out the window.
