Asus X99 Deluxe: Only 64GB RAM Capacity?

Hello!

 

I am interested in purchasing the Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard, but as far as I understand, it is only compatible with up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM. 

 

Will this ever be upgraded via a BIOS update or something, or is it a hardware thing that can never be changed?

 

I am planning on doing heavy content creation with the motherboard, and I would like to be able to get more DDR4 as it's storage density increases over time.

ddr 4 is new, they might not have got 128gb working

What is your mobo upgrade cycle? right now i see 16/24gb the norm so with it being so new and fast it will take ages for 64 to be the norm. 

PC: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Gigabyte X570 UD Corsair Vengence 32gb 3200MHZ Gigabyte RTX 2070 Intel 512gb boot / Seagate 2tb spinner Windows 10 Corsair 4000D black

I can't even touch my 64GB with full video rendering going but 64GB is max until we get more DIMM slots or higher capacity ram modules.

How about 240 chrome tabs open all the time?

only 64gb? lol and if it says it only supports 64gb then i wouldn't buy the extra ram just case the more than that does;t actually work. What do you need that much ram for any way?

As far  as I know, there are only up to 8GB non-ecc stick at the moment, and I'm not sure there will ever be non-ecc 16GB sticks. At least, I haven't heard anything about it. 8*8=64

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Thats probably because it does not support ECC memory. If it doesnt support ECC then whatever processor you put in it will only support 64GB, such as the 5960x.

OP didn't ask about non-ECC. It is very possible that a BIOS update could support 128GB of ECC memory, which is what the OP is asking. He will need a Xeon to support it though, and there is no guarantee that it will happen. But it is possible.

16GB non-ECC sticks may also be a possibility with DDR4.

For the sake of itx systems, I hope so. Sure, more than 16 isn't needed for gaming yet, but I sure need more than 16 for everything else.

You will have to wait until higher capacity modules come out. I cant tell you if the motherboard will support those though

ITLL work with 16GB sticks, thats the whole point of it. otherwise, you need a xeon and RDIMMs for loads of ram
