Got a Moto G

I/O

It's faster than my computer LOL. All jokes aside it's a good phone that runs like a high end phone for a lower end price FTW. Any good apps and games/Emulators I should check put ?

Good list of android emulators here http://www.androidauthority.com/best-emulators-for-android-315958/

As for what apps thats a big question it depends what you need/use/like? or give it some googling too and just trawl internet articles there are some hidden gems.

I didn't want to invest any money into apps that are probably free and work as well or better than the paid stuff.

I've been playing Telltale's The Walking Dead (Season 1 and Season 2)  and that's pretty cool to play on your phone especially if you haven't played it yet. I also got Linken recently and that is pretty cool. Then there is PPSSPP for PSP emulation which works very well on my One M8. As for apps that I use I would recommend getting Shuttle as the music player since it uses the material design, Textra which is a really nice SMS app with material design, Clean Master so that you can get rid of junk files, Wally for a lot of different wallpapers and MX Player for video playback :)

I tried honestly tried to play Telltales Back to The Future series on my PC but to be honest to conmtrols and camera angles are terrible so I stopped playing after a few hrs and uninstalled it LOL.Telltale games on a touch device makes sense especially on a mobile phone. Thanks for the suggestion. Hope that the Walking Dead will play well on the 1.2 Ghz quad core and Adreno 305 GPU in the Moto G.

It used to be but honestly at this point it really isn't. I've used one for a while and while the OS runs beatyfully web browsing and multitasking are slow to me. Anyway it's still a great phone and I do prefer 1st gen over the 2nd.

The hardware is not better than $500 phones and what I was replying to was when he asked how the build quality is and I said it's better than some $500 phones. I have no issues with the multitasking performance of the Moto G but then again there are some hidden developer options in the phone settings that need to be manually optimized in order to bring out the best performance from the phone. Also you have to remember you are working with only 1GB or ram not 2 or more like on high end devices.

I have the Moto G (1st Gen) and I have found that it has not slowed or broken down after 10 months of using it. I recommend that if you want updates for Android Lollipop, that you flash the Google Play Edition ROM on to it. I'm loving the ROM and it worked a charm to update it from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 (a full  4 months before it was released on the Non GPe Moto G) As always you can find great guides on the XDA Developers Forums.

There are some apps I would recommend too, I use Commandr for Google Now, it gives me more functionality to Google Now such as Bluetooth, Wifi and Cellular Data Toggles and more that aren't baked in to Google Now already. Google Now Launcher is another one too, I love this launcher over the stock one and is really handy for getting to Google Now and is just prettier. HERE Beta is also a great mapping service (I love it) with the Ability for Offline map searching and navigation, this isn't in the Play Store but can be downloaded directly from Nokia. Pushbullet is really useful as you can "Push" Files, webpages and more to your phone from your desktop and vice versa and it also Mirrors your notifications on your desktop when you have the extension installed on Chrome.

Can you please point out what settings you're using?

Yup. Navigate to Settings/About phone/Build number and tap that multiple times until it unlocks a hidden folder called Developer options and turn off windows animations. I also have forced 4x MSAA rendering in 2D applications just to make things look prettier.

Now that you've had a few days to test it out. How's the battery life? I'm thinking it can't be that great because you forced MSAA rendering.

I recommend checking out the games 7x7, Tic Tactics, and Pixel Dungeon. Not very graphics intensive but fun nonetheless.

Oh.. You mean that kind of basic stuff. I pretty much always use 0.5 on all animation scales.

Battery life seem meh. I had it on max brightness though since i bought it yesterday I put it on auto brightness and it seems to have lengthen the battery life a whole lot. But once again battery technology is far behind mobile hardware tech so there is no getting around this.

If you turn off the default .5 animation thing it really makes the phone allot more snappy and really it seems better to me with it off anyway.

Default on my phone was set to .5 and it just makes things slower not on the hardware level as I think the MotoG is strong enough but rather the animations take time to animate.

In terms of hours, how many are you getting on screen and in deep sleep? Have you tried greenifying stuff to halt battery drain?
