Can't Install an OS?

TheWiiPanda
Go to solution Solved by Baking Soda,

Memtest. Windows errors and Linux errors points me right into that direction. It's most likely your RAM.

So, about 2 months ago, I built a PC. I was happy, until about yesterday, when it bluescreened. I tried to reboot, but it would just bluescreen again. So I wiped the hard drive and tried to re-install Windows. It gave me an error about not being to access files at about 10% completion. Can somebody help me? I'm new here. Thanks a lot!

Specs:

760k no oc

A78M-E35 mobo

500gb Seagate HDD. (I tried 3 different drives, no avail)

R9 270X

8gb RAM 1333mgz (I know, I know)

600W Corsair PSU

Using the stock heat sink, but with re-applied thermal paste.

It was so bad it would bluescreen after 5 seconds with a different error every time! I also tried Linux Mint, that had errors on install, too.

Are you trying to re-install Windows with a USB drive or an optical disc?

If it's with an optical disc, it might have some scratches.

Check your bios settings in case you have any protections on the drive.

I went through, everything seemed normal. It had installed a few days prior (I had the 10 tech preview).

It was a USB drive.

Can you tell me what those would be under?

And what they SHOULD be? I'm also just trying to install Windows now, will dual-boot at some point. Its error is that it can't read the disk or write to the hard drive after a bit of installing.

I have no clue, the bios for pretty much every different model of motherboard is different.

What is the general term for it?

It's probably your RAM, try a single stick in DIMM1, try to install the OS, and then if that doesn't work try the second stick in the same DIMM slot. If it still doesn't work RMA the RAM.

Current Build: Intel i5-3570k @3.8GHz; MSI-Z77-G41; 8GB Corsair Ballistix @1600MHz; EVGA SSC GTX 650TI 2GB; Adata SX900 128GB; Western Digital Green 1TB; Asus CD burner; Corsair HX750 750 Watt power supply; Cooler Master HAF-912.

Is there a general setting I should look out for?

Something along the lines of 'reset to default settings' ...

I already tried that when the OS was crashing. And Chrome tabs would crash randomly. I already checked the RAM, it didn't help the blue screens.

make sure what ever it is your connecting is to the usb 2.0 not 3.0 if not get a dvd drive and try that form of an install using the sata port inside the system :)

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I'll try, but what is the significance of USB 2?

I just tried an SSD... no luck. Do you think it's the USB stick? I've used two, gotten errors with them. I'll try a different port? If that doesn't work, what do you recommend?

Sounds like a broken ISO from my standpoint...

Try re-downloading the iso and check for integrity once you're done...
