Best CPU cooler for ~£60 (100$)

wiktor1800

I have the Corsair Carbide AIR 540 and I kinda want to live up to it's name and get an air cooler

I have done a little bit of research and found 3 ones within my price range (kind of)

- Phanteks PH-TC14PE

        http://www.scan.co.uk/products/phanteks-premium-edition-cpu-cooler-black-edition-lga-2011-1155-1156-1366-775-and-amd-fm1-fm2-am3plu

- be quiet! Dark Rock 3

        http://www.amazon.co.uk/quiet-BK019-Quiet-Dark-Cooler/dp/B00HPX7J4K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1414451286&sr=8-2&keywords=dark+rock+3

- CM V8GTS

        http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-Heatpipe-Chamber-Performance/dp/B00DI7002K/ref=sr_1_13?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1414451343&sr=1-13

Any other suggestions? And if not, which one is the best out of these?

You could also go for the NH-U14s (if you have ram compatability issues) or NH-D14.

Out of them 3 though the be quiet! Is the best, then phanteks and you can just forget about the v8 it's shit compared to them.

The DRP3 and Phanteks should be pretty similar performance wise, the DRP3 will likely be quieter but harder to install. I know nothing about the Cooler Master option except that I like how it's logo is oriented the correct way, something more companies need to do.

Dont worry about ex VAT, the actual price is the one inc VAT

Nope, my RAM is quite low profile (old G-skill ripjaws - http://www.abload.de/img/rl-d4qug.jpg) and i hate the look of all the ugly ass brown and beige noctua fans, it's the color of a retirement home.

The thing i like about the phanteks, is that it looks quite nice and the white and black is nicely color coordinated towards my build. Is the be quiet - quiet? I have my PC right next to me and I have the AMD stock cooler. 2 words - leaf leaf blower. I kind of want the quiet/performance ratio to be just right. My pricing is quite flexible (-+ £20)

Get the be quiet! It is often regarded as the quietest air cooler (meaning quietest cooler full stop) and performs just as good as the phanteks (just alot quieter).

Also on a side note, if you are british, please spell "colour" correctly ;)

I actually might go for that one, it looks amazing. Benchmarks also prove It's quite a good performing cooler, + It's quiet, just what I wanted haha!

And yeah, I live in Scotland, I just spend way too much time with 'muricans on the internet :P

I know I can tell by the "ugly ass brown" quote. :P

Yeah you'll be happy with the cooler just make sure your case has enough clearance for it.

Your the second person this month I've heard say good thing's about this cooler. I vaguely remember hearing about this company earlier this year, and after looking at some reviews it seems to be a pretty nice cooler and people are happy with it's performance.

I'm gonna keep an eye on this company, thanks for sharing

Yep! Base on my experience it really performs well. It ticks most of the needs so far for me atleast.

The Aesthetics : Is bang on. They definitely know how to design it to look very nice/premium finish

The price: It is really good imo, a bit worst in places like Canada, (getting cheaper now in UK) and Australia because of the VAT and no availability. But right now the price is so good. The only reason why the price is high for it is for 1, people overpricing it, 2: Its just not that available so far not all stores sell them, and 3: V.A.T can really drive the prices up.

One of the easiest huge dual tower heatsinks to install!

As for Performance it indeed performs. Although if your using a hot cpu with a typical TiM, it can still cool it will be loud if you crank up the fan though.

Right now though, mine is running at silent mode for the dual 140mm pwm fan on my bios, and cools my chip really well without the fan noise. But this is with the cpu de-lid + CLU on both die to ihs and ihs to R1's baseplate and a bit of Liquid Electrical tape to avoid the CLU shorting the capacitors/transistors beside the die.

Max temp so far 4.4 @ 1.224 P95 Smallftts is not going over 58 and IBT at High not going over 64. at 4.5 @1.26 P95 same test temps are not going over 64, IBT same test not going over 70.

Tested with the MX-4 to the die to ihs + ihs to baseplate, it had all of the same temperatures but add 15-16 degrees to the max temp at 100% load.

What I found interesting is that the 4.4 and 4.5 OC using both CLU and MX4 in both OC's.

>Both had almost the same idle temp's with 1-2 degree difference

>But underload at 100% with P95 and IBT, CLU had 15-16 degrees less temperature at 100% load compared to the  MX-4

But there is no doubt, My CPU is not a good overclocker xDD  :(
