what is the diffrence between Intel nic and killer nic?

Daniel91

doesn't effect performence, is only for managing the usable bandwith of programs

and which is better for a editing rig?

Just 2 brands of network card

Killer promises packet prioritisation for gaming, so games will get more bandwidth than other programs

intel cards are reliable and generally the best option for reliability, better software and less bugs

honestly it barely makes a difference

there are some diffrences between intel and killer lan.

killer lan has QoS software, BUt this just works like crap.

Its better to let the router deal the QoS anyway.

In my opinnion intel lan chips are just better.

More stable drivers, and better overall with compatibility.

Virtualization for example just sucks with killer, also some vpn software doesnt seem work that well with killer.

Killer also uses more cpu sources because of its buggy QoS software.

Basicly Killer is just a marketing gimmicky for gamer, but in real world it isnt better.

They think that letting theire NiC controll QoS software base would be better.

But its not, because it only use more cpu sources. and its better to let the router deal with QoS anyway.

I don't think it should be a major consideration. I wouldn't rule out an otherwise very good motherboard just because it has a Killer network controller. For better or worse, they put them on a lot of very good high-end boards.

I wouldn't go out of my way for it, though.

Currently running Killer, had Intel in the past.  Apart from having to install extra software that runs in the background, I don't notice any difference really.

NFSW still lags like crazy if I'm downloading stuff, so the Killer is just as bad at prioritizing as the Intel nic.

There are a lot of reasons why you may want to pick one motherboard over another.  However the nic shouldn't be one of those reasons.

I think one is atheros (qualcom) and the other... intel obviously.

Intel apparently have better drivers and more 'stable' NICs although from my experience...

It doesn't matter for consumer use.
