REDEAMER221O you should follow your topics so you can see when people post.

This sounds amazing, 144TB do you really need this? What do you store? my nas is 9TB and ive barely touched 4TB.

What OS are you going to use?

I'm still undecided but at this point Win7 or Server 2012

and on do i need it topic maybe not the whole
*Raw Storage: 144.0 TB
*Usable Storage: 109.1 TB

But i'm trying to future proof for 3-5years my current storage array is just over 34tb of personal data and work :P

Any recomandations on OS?

Well on my Nas i use freenas, i run plex so i can stream my media anywhere i want ( its great for long drives) and i share films with my family who live else where. i also run transmission and sickbeard and couch potato. bit sync for photos. so its perfect for me but might not suit the needs of others.

there are a few other os's like freenas, i dont know anything about win server but there are a lot of people on here that do. OS depends on what your needs are, What your going to store. what are your main use's for this going to be?

yeah i under stand about future proofing haha! I was going to put 18TB's in mine for future use but it just cost's so much and in the future there going to have ssd's that big so i'm going to upgrade then.

I have never tried freenas will have to look into it :D i also have Plex running on my media pc (not the premium yet still need to purchase that) ill send u a plex invite oneday wen i get this server off the ground....i have never use Transmission,Sickbeard or couch potato so will have to look into that soon aswell. I'm using Dropbox at the moment for photo's it seems to be working ok ,

Main use's will be docement storage & HD-4k Media so a Plex will help with that ,Could possibly use the server to host games aswell if need be :P

Well let's face the facts storage is expensive Yes :(

Do we need it - Yes

Does it get cheaper over time - Yes

Wil u see the huge loss of $$$ building a server like this yes but only in 2020 with 10-20tb drives so for a 6 year build this server is fine xD
