How would I tell if the XFX R9 270 Double Dissipation Edition has a reference PCB? Does anyone actually know if it does, or how I can find out?

They don't make water blocks for that card AFAIK so there is no point in getting a reference PCB

I was actually wondering about a backplate. I don't completely like the look of the connectors poking out the back of the card, so I wanted to maybe cover them and maybe give more support to my card and to make it look nicer.

backplate for reference should work water block wont though

All XFX DD cards are reference PCB.

After a quick search, it looks like there aren't many 270 backplates. Would a 270x backplate work as well, or do you think not?

Would the EK 7870 Full Cover Backplate work? It says on the product page it isn't standalone, does that mean it most likely wouldn't work by it self?

I think it means that it will only work in conjunction with an EK water block

Personally no, I don't worry about backplates too much, but there's likely other people on the forum that know better about this kind of thing then I do.
