I've seen ppl asking differences between i7 5820k and i7 5930k. That ppl is willing to spend more because they are unsure if 28 lanes vs 40 is enough?

 

Folks. Linus said it in the last WAN show how it works. His opinion is that 5930k is not worth it even if you have 2 cards and other hardware like PCI SSDs etc, because it is enough!. (OFC if you are crazy and have even much more then you will be needing 40 lanes, but there is a very few ppl which uses ALL of their PCIE lanes)

Seeing as there's no benefit for cards running in 16x16x mode over 8x8x - if only for two way SLI, the 5820k will serve just fine.

Quad Core platforms have worked perfectly fine with 16 lanes, I'm sure a beast 6 core CPU with 28 will also be fine

I think you guys shoud talk about PCIE lanes next week on one part of the WAN show. Because they have been threads with these kind of questions and ppl wants to hear from someone like you guys what you recommend and yoru experience with this subject.

I would love to hear more about differences between having more or less PCIE lanes, What's pros, cons?

And yeah, I have seen the S340, though I don't like the restricted airflow and the finish.

Less pcie lanes would result in less bandwidth to the addon card and more pcie lanes would allow further expansion at native throughput.
