Hi guys,

what is best between the 840 EVO and the Crucial 550M (both 500gb)?

Is worth buying a 30-60gb m.2 pcie ssd (and the adapter, i have a maximus vi hero...)? What is the best? (over 600Mbps, if the speed is lower doesnt count :P)

I'd personally go with the EVO.

Why do you want such a small SSD? Usually the cost doesn't make any sense when you compare it to larger sized drives.

Just to put windows there... I know that pcie ssds costs much more, so just a little one is good... Which one is worth the price for the performance that gives?

Yes and no. RAM is much, much faster than an SSD used for cache. If that's all he'd be using it for, I'd just get a regular SSD.

But, there too, if you get a lower capacity one, the flash will be slower, thus defeating the purpose.

It's only really useful as it keeps heavy writes off your main drive.

It doesn't make any sense to buy one just to stick an OS on it when you already have an SSD going into the system. With the money you're spending on a miniscule hard drive, you could easily step up to a 1tb SSD.

I'd recommend going with the Crucial M550

The 840 EVO has had firmware issues where the read speeds were drastically reduced for old files(around a month or older). It was supposed to be fixed in an recent firmware update, but unfortunately we will not know if it's truly fixed for a couple more weeks until the results come in because the issues were dealing with old files, so we just have to wait.
