question about Android lock screens

I locked my screen so that a pin is required to get in. Now whenever someone sends me a text or I get an email the phone lights up and the pin pad pops up prompting me to enter it. Is there any way to turn that off? I want the pin but I don't want it to pop up every time something happens when the phone is locked.

There is no way of doing that, unfortunately for you.

What are you trying to do? Just read the text?

That would pretty much eliminate the purpose of a PIN code, some phones support other ways of securing your phone like a fingerprint scanner or even through recognizing a face. I honestly don't find much use in having a security, unless you have people who often want to mess with your phone or you're really afraid of it being stolen.

What phone do you have? My Nexus 5 just stays dark. Do you have it set so that when you get a text it pops up on your screen over top of what ever else you're looking at?

Correct! I have a note 4. I thought I changed it so that there is no notification

That's the only thing I can think of that would cause that.

So what happens is this. I'll be sitting at my desk and someone will text me. Then the screen lights up and the pin pad is displayed. It sits there lit up for a while. I switched my sms app to textra and in the settings there I don't see anything. It's really annoying when it happens and a waste of battery to have it light up and sit there every time someone texts me.

Do you have floating notifications on? I think that's what they're called with Textra.

I know what you're trying to disable. I had the same thing on my Optimus G many years ago, I just can't remember how I got rid of it.

It was a nightmare having it on and having my gf at the time bitch at me for every text I got from another girl <_<

Okay so you know what I'm talking about. Good.

I have floating notifications off when it's locked and on when it's unlocked. It's weird because nothing pops up when someone texts me when it's locked. Just the keypad. It's a little thing but it's really annoying. I'll have to play with it a bit. Maybe if I turn off the floating notifications when it's unlocked. I don't know
