R9 280/280X or wait for GTX 960?

HellaflushMcSwaggins

So I just recieved half of the money I need for the R9 280 and just have to sell my current gpu now, but I have a question: Should I go for the R9 280 or wait for the upcoming GTX 960?

It's not a bug, it's an undocumented feature!

Wait for the 960, the R9 280 isn't an upgrade from a 7950.

You already have a 280; that's what a 7950 is re-branded to.

Can you wait?

Yes - wait.

No - don't wait.

Wait for the 960, the R9 280 isn't an upgrade from a 7950.

A 960 isn't really a worthy upgrade from a 280 either...performance will probably be pretty similar, just more efficient.

If you consider the performance jump between 700 series and 900 series (where the GTX 970 can run with a GTX 780 stock and a Ti overclocked), I wouldn't be suprised if the GTX 960 could match a 770 stock and meet a 780 overclocked.

I'd expect 770, I'd be very surprised if it got anywhere near a 780.

What about the 280X? I have found one with 1 year warranty for the price of a 265 and the seller accepts testing at home

If you REALLY need that extra performance, either buy another 7950, or wait for a 960. There's no point in spending ~$100 to get 5% extra performance.

Whats your current GPU? If its something you can continue to game on for [as much as] a few more months, just wait it out. There's no rush unless you must buy now to continue gaming.

I currently run a 7950, but it's on its last legs because the previous owner almost killed it with bitcoin mining and it has random crashes

Buy the R9 280 or save more for a GTX 970.

I have the 280 and if you want a performance upgrade go up to the 970.

There's no guarantee that you'll be able to get a GTX 960 right away either. Just look at the waiting line for the 970.
