trolling roommate with wifi questions

thekillergazebo

So I am trying to troll one of my roommates and was thinking of making trying to make his connection slow to the internet. we have a netgear N600 router and I know we can block IP addresses as an admin, but can you change the max speed that a specific PC can use? I would like to make it so hes at dial up speed and have him freak out for a little. If you guys have any other Ideas of good pranks please let me know too

The router doesn't let you do that.  You would need top change the max excepted on HIS computer

Surprising the router doesn't allow it. Obviously the PC should control its own speed, but I would have thought that consumer routers would have some form of man bandwidth sharing/prioritising feature. I guess business ones might.

You can set parental control and shut his Internet at 9.30pm, when it's time to do to bed... (with his mac addr)

You can simply block his mac address too.

You can also DNS Spoof him (bit more complicated), so when he tries to go on something.xxx he gets redirected to someotherthing.com

You can perform a Mitm attack to know everything he's doing and creep him out a little...

As for speed, some routers have QoS so you can set a priority on your PC so you get all the bandwidth whenever you need it :)

Is a Mitm attach legal in the US? i never thought you could do that at the home level, but the application sounds cool. and thanks for bringing up the QoS idea :P im setting that up now.

I think it's legal if it's in your own network on your own computers for security testing purposes. Kali, Backtrack are totally legal and labeled as "penetration testing" software. It's illegal to use it against your friend to gather data, but you are not going to get the feds because you pranked your friend... unless he puts charges on you... Otherwise they won't know it and if they did I think they wouldn't give a f**k if your performing mitm attacks against your roommate to check what kind of porn he likes :D

eh lol ill prob just stick with setting up block all ips from xx time to xx time. Will be funny to watch. Our ISP has constant outages when they have college football games going on, and when they do he almost smashed the router. So this will be great stuff to watch.
