what are PSUs in OEM computers like?

e.g. dell, alienware, HP,etc. What are the PSUs in their computers like and what are the internal components inside them like? Also, what were power supplies of old like (e.g. the PSU in my 10 year old Dell Dimension 3000). 

and if so, how come some of these last forever? ( the one in my dell is still running perfect after 10 years)

Generally completely shit.

 

The only reason they seem to last longer is because they're generally less than 500w and are used in systems that aren't as highly demanding as others. Corsair PSUs have 5 year warranties, they have faith in their products.

Basically they will do the job they've been deployed to do.

 

However I would NEVER Upgrade an OEM PC without upgrading the PSU As they are good for the system thats installed with it but any upgrades and your asking for issues.

 

They are not shit just designed for the system they go into.

No component lasts forever. Especially power supplies. As a matter of fact, nothing lasts forever, not even the universe. To even suggest that a PSU especially one from an OEM PC could last forever is almost absurd.

Uhm Delta is actually the largest OEM PSU manufacturer, I've seen delta's in Acer/Medion/Dell/Alienware etc so the statement that every PSU in an OEM PC is crap is false.
