my first computer was 14 years ago when my parents got a Compaq with windows ME on it in 2001. Loved to play Need for Speed 2 and Bejeweled 2 on it. sadly, it only lasted 3 years until it died ;(

I liked watching one of my class mates force feed a school computer saltines via the CD drive while yelling "COMPUTER HUNGRY, COMPUTER WANT EAT" lol. Oddly enough, it never broke the CD drive, but that PC would only print to a printer in the office, and never in the computer lab.

The massive monitors with a round screen, especially massive compared to what we have now. I just love the sound these things make when booting up and shutting down. It's kinda amazing how much space we got when flat monitors came out.

my old 15 inch CRT could be my daily driver lol, but we knocked down our old shed to make room for a bigger one, and the monitor went down with it, and it was in good condition, just needed a bit of a clean.

i cry everytime ;(

our old TV is a CRT, still used daily with a freeview box and a DVD player. i like how makes a loud click when it starts up and the fact that the glass screen can give you a static shock

well we use out current one ( 9-10 years old) with a Sky+HD box downstairs in the living room( its a big, fat one with a 43 inch matte screen)

My first PC was a Century XT 8088 originally released in 1981... and I still have it. Those were the days when you had to know more about computers than you do now. You didn't have a mouse or a GUI. There was no clicking on an application to run it. You had to know DOS code and be able to remember it all. So that's what I was doing as a toddler... memorizing DOS code. I miss the fact that you actually had to be intelligent in those days. Being a computer wiz in today's world is nothing. If you were a computer wiz back in those days more than likely you were truly the only person that knew how to do it. Today if you don't know how to do something on your PC all you have to do is go find a YouTube video. When I was first learning computers you had to figure it out for yourself and it was really rewarding when you did.

being able to completely cut off the power on a Commodore64 while it's doing something, plug it back in, fire it up and have everything be perfectly fine, and in a split second.

Since I have HELIOS, I don't really miss anything. Other than my Quantum Bigfoot TS 19.2GB drive that bit the dust. At least HELIOS is comprised of some of the best parts from the time.

the fact that i'm using one,

PS: Other things i like about using one

  • The long moments between giving a command & waiting for the whole damn PC to respond , you get to think about 'Life' & it's purpose & meaning & then you have to get back to working out what game you want to play :/
  • Room temps are beautifully balanced since due to performance nothing can overheat beyond a certain point so it's quite balanced
  • faint sound of stock heat sink fan (really ambient)
  • you get to see hourglass mice quite often
  • can get it to work under any wattage PSU
  • ps2 port
  • that misty feel inside the blurry CRT monitor on rainy/cold dayz xD
  • membrane keyboard feel (retro)

aahh.. all the perks... B) #ThugLife

Details separate people.
