Wouldn't recommend playing games with two screens only. You can do the other one for gaming and the other one for browsing. You can set it in your display option in control panel.

Hi guys!

I've just ordered a second screen for a dual monitor set up and a thought crossed my mind...

I've not much experience with dual screen setups i know it's fairly straight forward but if i were to extend my display

whilst gaming would it stretch over the two screens? or could i have one for say web browsing and my main one for gaming?

Thanks in advance!!

You can have a game stretch across two screens but it's dumb and pointless since you have a bezel line straight through the middle of your view. Just use one monitor for gaming and the other for browsing or something else. With gaming it's either one monitor or three, not two.

Games won't stretch to the second monitor automatically. So yes, you could game on one and use the other for anything else.

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).

I know i don't want to dual screen game i was just thinking would it do it automatically? or would i have to fiddle with settings?

Man you  made a great decision. You will never go back to using one screen. If you use a laptop you will scavenge and pillage for a second monitor wherever you can find one

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Some games can take advantage of a second screen. Such as running a large map of some kind and other features. I played world in conflict a lot and it was a big help.

Main RIg Corsair Air 540, I7 9900k, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero, G.Skill Ripjaws 3600 32GB, 3090FE, EVGA 1000G5, Acer Nitro XZ3 2560 x 1440@240hz

Spare RIg Lian Li O11 AIR MINI, I7 4790K, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, G.Skill Ares 2400 32Gb, EVGA 1080ti, 1080sc 1070sc & 1060 SSC, EVGA 850GA, Acer KG251Q 1920x1080@240hz

Its actually even simpler than it sounds. You just set in the control panel which is the primary display, and I suppose there's a 50/50 chance of it being set correctly by default. Virtually all games respect the primary display without any need to change any options, aside from just making sure the resolution is correct.
