Suddenly have to set compatibility mode to win7?

Hi,

 

First of all, it's not an actual troubleshooting question, just a simple question because the "problem" itself isn't preventing me from playing any games. So I've been using Windows 8.1 for a bit less than a year now and I could play any games without doing anything special, but recently, I couldn't launch any of my games and I found out that setting the compatibility mode of the .exe file to windows 7 fixes the problem, are there any reasons for this to happen? It happened do games such as Dota, Diablo III, LoL, Skyrim, Hearthstone, SCII, CSGO, etc.
