triple monitor setup

Nachoz88

Hi guys,, im not really planning to do this but i'd like to know. what graphics cards would i need to run a 4k triple monitor set up?

also (and this i think i will do if it works,) can a dual gtx 980 G1 gaming sli config run a triple monitor with 1 4k monitor and the other 2 being 2k?

finally ( if the answer to the second question is no) what should i consider if i want a triple monitor setup with dual 980???

thanks

if you want triple monitors and have 2 980s, I'd suggest 3 1440p monitors.

I asked this question some time ago, maybe you can find some good answers in it :D

thanks man :) :) :)

but still leaves the question,, what about 1 4k in the middle and 2 1440p on the side?

Are you trying to game on all three?

Assuming you mean to game across all three, I believe they need to be the same resolution. Even if it "works," 1440p - 2160p - 1440p would probably either show a scaled up 1440p image on the 4K monitor, or it would be letterboxed. Either way it would break the image continuity.

I really don't think current video card hardware makes triple-4K setups feasible yet. Dual GTX 980's are what you'd want for one 4K display, ideally. 7680x1440 is still considered a fairly insane resolution.

aaah thanks guys. okay then as a closing remark then is it safe to say dual gtx 980s can run pretty much almost every current game on ultra in 4k?? or at least 90%? at playable framerates? (not like 100+ but a solid 40+ at least)

Dual GTX 980's should be able to give you 40+ on Ultra settings in 4K. Three 4K monitors? Good luck. That certainly ain't happening yet with this round of graphics cards.

If you want to do some weird one 4K + two 2K triple monitor set up...or crazy 4K + 2K + 1K configuration, you'll need to look over the fence and into the AMD garden.

AMD is a little ahead for multi-monitor technology at the moment.

At playable framerates on a single 4K monitor? Yes, quite easily. I wouldn't want to promise they'd keep everything at ultra and 60 FPS, though, but they would give you a good chance. You might need to tweak certain games like Crysis 3 a little more than others, but high+ for sure. Probably ultra and 60 FPS in less demanding games easily.

Bear in mind that at 4K you can turn down anti-aliasing effects further than you could at lower resolutions. Having so many more pixels crammed into a 28-30" display makes jagged edges much less noticeable, so 4x/8x MSAA or SSAA can be a waste. Using FXAA would be a travesty. 4K is sort of like having supersampling built into your monitor.

Nothing that currently can be bought will run max settings in current games at playable framerates in 4k surround lol.
