Need a new PSU

toffbrown

Hi guys,

i'm looking for a Power supply that is ranging from 750 to 1000+ Watts i would prefer an 850Watt PSU if available. But i want it to be a good brand like corsair or coolermaster basically known brands. Modular or Semi-Modular i don't mind really at all. And an LED Fan in the PSU (Blue LED) something like the Corsair GS800 v.2 it's perfect but it isn't modular frown.gif

it needs enough PCI-E connectors for 2 R9 270x so that would be four 6 PIN PCI-E

i need to buy it from Australia, anyshop or place I don't care i am willing to spend up to say $160 i prefer the same price as a GS800 ($120-$149)

so ideally

800-850 Watt
Blue LED fan
4 or more 6 Pin PCI-E
$140

would be perfect

i have

AMD A10-7850k

2133 Kingston HyperX DDR3 2x4

Asus A88X-Plus

Thermaltake Chaser A31

2 x R9 270x Toxic Sapphire Radeon 2GB

http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Series-80PLUS-Gold-Certified-Supply/dp/B00EB7UIXM This is $4 over, but it doesn't have a blue fan. I have this PSU and it's fantastic. If you want a blue led fan, but 800 watt, the Corsair GS800 would be the one for you.

Main PC: Core i5 4670 | MSI Mpower Max z87 | G.Skill Ripjaws 2x4gb | Stock intel cooler | PNY GTX 770 2gb (hoping to upgrade) | Seagate 1tb 7200rpm | Corsair RM850 | Corsair Carbide Air 540 | PCCG custom sleeved black/yellow extensions | Corsair K70 Cherry MX Blue | Corsair M45 |

thanks man,

i'll look into it and i noticed the GS800 but someone told me it was crappy and not a solid PSU and i currently have a Corsair VS550 and it's non-modular and i have been told modular makes your temps alot better, unsure wether it makes a huge increase or not but my PC doesn't really get hot with gaming or intense things

A psu's modularity or lack thereof shouldn't affect temps at all. It has some to do with cable management but not much. The GS800 is a decent psu.

You could run a 270x cf off of a decent 650w though.. Anything more is easily overkill. I'd suggest something like the 750 B2: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-110b20750vr

Though so with the cable management, but it's easy to just hide the unwanted cables. and i was thinking i should get an 800Watt power supply for future proofing if i decide to get a newer GPU which requires more power then a r9 270x, even having 3 r9 270x's 3 way crossfired

You'd need to get a new motherboard if you wanted to cf 3 cards.

Although it's not entirely clear, it seems that graphics cards are moving towards less power consumption and not more. I wouldn't recommend spending more than you need for a larger psu until you need it. A psu like the 750B2 would already be plenty for a 780 or 970 sli.

Oops thought i had 3 PCI-E x16 slots

i really like how the 750B2 is modular?

how great is the EVGA SuperNova 750Watt compared to the 750B2

It does have 3 pci-e slots but they aren't set up to run triple cf.

I'd go with the B2 due to it coming from a better psu manufacturer, Super Flower instead of FSP despite the efficiency rating.

The original link I posted links to the Australian version of pcpartpicker. You can find links to the right to different Aus vendors like CPL and PcCaseGear.

Oh wow you are bloody amazing, i'm used to PC part picker being US lol

Just for future pc building anything wrong with overkill PSU's

because i have a few mates who have mid ranged spec PC's like mine running off intel and they have one 760 GTX and they have a 1200Watt PSU

thanks again

Just cost and in some cases, larger psus tend to be.. well physically larger. Efficiency tends to go down with an overkill psu as well although that generally wavers quite a bit due to idle vs load power draw being pretty drastic.

You won't get a better psu than this for the price/performance. Fully modular with a 10 year warranty. It also has semi fanless mode, so the fan won't kick in until a certain load.

It will easily power a couple of 270X toxic cards.

How many SATA and Molex connectors do you need ?

You can always add more by buying splitter cables.

For example:

Molex splitter - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Molex-4-pin-Splitter-Power-Cable-Extension-IDE-20-CM-/271510434372?pt=AU_CablesConnectors&hash=item3f37487244

SATA splitter - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1-x-SATA-Power-T-Y-Splitter-Extension-Cable-Adapter-NEW-079-/330750497179?pt=AU_CablesConnectors&hash=item4d0244119b

Most pc shops should also sell splitter cables.

Things like Fans, Hard drives and optical drives etc that use sata or molex don't use a lot of power. I don't see any problems using splitter cables.
