How badly would a overclocked FX 4130 bottleneck a R9 280

How badly? i have it overclocked to 4.2Ghz.

 

I ask because i have 3 things that im going to upgrade. 

 

i5 4690k

Asus z97 (forget the name)

XFX R9 280

 

i would like to get the GPU or the Mobo+CPU first. i cna only afford the gpu atm. should i get it?

There's already price drops on the 280X and 290 and above, i would say wait for the 280 to drop even lower before buying it.

You can get a 290 for $250. I'd say it's easily worth the extra $60.

but then i have to upgrade my PSU. with a R9 280 its drawing 380watts

You can get another power supply for pretty cheap.

Honestly the performance difference is more than worth it and if you plan to OC your new processor anyway, you'll need the power.

Pretty sure you'd be fine with a 290 on a 500W when paired with a 4690k

What's your current GPU? You might as well get whichever is on sale if it isn't decent.

i would, it would draw like 460 watts, bit i only have a 6pin, and a 6+2 pin. and 460 is getting close, with overclocking in mind. i would rather only get a 280x at the most. plus i dont really play demanding games, tbh, a 750ti or a 270x would probably be fine.

I misread 290 instead of 280, my bad.

 

Should still be fine with a 280 on 500W though... I run a very similar system overclocked (4690K + 7950 // 1.375v CPU // 1.2v GPU).
