r9 280 vs r9 270x

Hey,

I am building a new pc and i'm debating between two cards and im not sure what im going to get better performance out of.  they are listed below.

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/his-video-card-h280qc3g2m

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202050&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Basically my dilemma is that the r9 280 has a lower clockspeed than the r9 270x, but the 280 is a better card.  what will give me better performance in games.

they would both be fine but i just wanna know the best.

I can help with programming and hardware.

you can overclock yourself

get 280

even if you dont overclock now, you might after a year

and 1gb vram more will be useful

btw, dont overvolt, that cooler isnt the best

the 270x as it's by Sapphire haha.

it will not beat the 280 in performance (although under full load it might... judging the 280's cooling) but i'd prefer reliability.

i guess my question is what is the best card for 160-190 $.

970

285. The 7950 was a good card back in 2012.

I've bought 2 R9 280x's from ebay from two different people and they both arrived like new. All the accesories were in their plastic covers and the cards were even in their anti static bags. If someone told me the cards were new I wouldn't have noticed. I got them each for $160-$170 if that would be an alternative for you.

My PC: i7 3770k @ 4.4 Ghz || Hyper 212 Evo || Intel Extreme Motherboard DZ77GA || EVGA Hybrid 980ti || Corsair Vengeance Blue 16GB || Samsung 840 Evo 120 GB || WD Black 1TB

GTX 760

The Bench marks that i've seen tell me that the 280 is more powerful, if u can show me benchmakrs that prove me wrong please do, i always prefer nvidia.

You can't compare clock speeds between two different processor architectures. The R9 280 uses the Tahiti GPU, R9 270X uses Pitcairne. You would need a very extreme clock speed difference for the R9 270X to be faster.

This is actually a review for the [overpriced] R9 285, but most of the benchmarks in it include both the 280 and 270X so you can see the difference for yourself:

285. The 7950 was a good card back in 2012.

If you can find a 285 for the same price as a 280, absolutely. The two are about equal in most games, though, so I really wouldn't go out of my way for one.

Problem is, most 285's I see are still $250+. You could find an R9 280X or GTX 770 for that. Pricing is still bizarre and unpredictable in this crazy, post-GTX 970 world.

GTX 760

The GTX 760 costs as much or more than what most R9 280's cost, and is inferior in pretty much every game. The 760 can even fall behind the 270X occasionally, depending on the game and settings used.
