Just a New Build Wandering in my head.

Vital1ty

Okay, one thing I would like to mention before hand. I've considered both Intel and AMD. The Intel i3's and the AMD FX's. Mine is a budget build. Purely for gaming and ocassionally for programming.

The storage I've not picked because I already have a 1TB WD disk lying around in the house. I've even have the OS. Any Suggestions? Specially with the Motherboard and the CPU cooler.

Well, $500 seems about it. But maybe a 50 give or take. Nothing more than that.

Okay, So first thing, I did mention that I did my homework on Intel vs AMD. I guess AMD would help me attain my goals of gaming. I still think that Intel has that superiority in the CPU manufacturer line.

Mid range, AMD's are slightly better than Intel. But in the enthusiast section, Intel are the greater ones.

I liked how you put in that R9 290 in there. But I guess R7 260X should be fine for a couple of years now and then I might directly go for the R9[or whatever it might be called] 300 series.

And for the last part, the case. I love the Phantom 410 absolutely. The best Mid tower, hands down on that. Else I would've picked some $50 case and put more into my GPU. Case is the only part that lasts the longest so I think it should be worth it.

These are my opinions. If you have anything to add to your opinion or correct me in my opinion, you are most welcome. Because at the end of the day, one of us or both of us ends up more knowledgeable. :)

One more question is, "Is the AMD FM2+ better off to go with or the AM3+?" Because I've heard rumours stating that AM3+ will be dead and even the rumours saying that only for the year 2015 the AM3+ will not be upgraded/developed, but it will be after that. So which one would you go with if you had to choose between these two?

Pretty nice build. A better processor, a better GPU. Impressive. The only let down is the case. To be honest, I would like if my case looked a lot more nicer, no offence though. And don't you think a dual channel memory kit would be better?

Well, again, a nice build but I don't know whether I'm going with the Athlon or APU range with FM2+/FM2. I was just asking your opinions about which way I should go.

Hi there Vital1ty,

Your initial build is quite nice for the budget. I've seen a lot of gamers using the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO and I think that you don't have to worry about it too much. The Phantom case looks great. I'd keep it too.

I've heard the “AM3+ is dying” line repeatedly too. May be this could happen indeed, but what to choose now depends on on when and what you'll be willing to upgrade in the future. I think you could downgrade the PSU a little. You don't really need 750W with the current build.

Hope this helps,

Titania_WD

Hey, Thanks for the suggestions. Thanks for clearing out the doubts about CM Hyper EVO. I guess I will go for it only then. Phantom is indeed a great case with a lot of features.

About the AM3+, I might upgrade my PC again in like 2-3 years. That is the reason I'm thinking more about going with the FX series for now. But if the FM2+ is long term then no harm in going that way too. So I want an accurate answer which is nearly impossible to get with the rumors around. So I'm looking for a reliable answer.

The Power supply is available for cheap and is 80+ Gold Rated. Rosewill do have some reputation. That is why I chose that. My initial build will do even with a 500W or 550W. But when you are getting 750W at a price of 550W or 600W one, why throw it away? :)

Dual channel RAM, $3 more. Do the same for FM2+ if that's the build you want. This is probably preferable to the FM2+. On the question of which CPU for FM2+ socket, I certainly wouldn't choose an APU because they cost more for something you won't use since you'll be using a dedicated GPU. And for the case, your budget demands a budget build. To the best of my ability that is what I delivered. The components that demand the most money are, and in order of gaming priority: GPU, CPU, CPU cooler, Mobo, Storage, RAM, PSU, Case. Despite the fact the case is damn cheap and not very pretty, it has excellent airflow, courtesy of the fans I added to it. The problem here is the budget. If you want Filét Mignon you have to pay for it, else you get Bangers and Mash!  ;)

I would prefer Dual Channel. Worth $3. And if I'm going for the FM2+ then as you said I would definitely go for the Athlon series. APU is damn good for HTPC's. For Gaming, an Athlon paired with discrete GPU would be great.

But that is the question. FM2+[Athlon] or AM3+[FX series]?

That is one amazing explanation for the case problem. But case is preferred on the basis of looks and airflow as well as the features/capacity to hold different things together. By all these the Phantom 410 is unbeatable. I'm not saying your case is bad. I just said it looks bad. Anyways. Thanks for all the other items. I will re consider on my decision on the R7 260X and look forward to R9 280.

One more question, What is the difference between, R7 260/260X. What is the significance of X?

And thank you everybody who helped me till now and thanks in advance to those who will.  :)

The difference between the r7 260 and 260x is little enough. But I've recommended the R9 280, a far superior GPU.

For the CPU platform. For performance now, I'd go AM3+, for possible performance increases later choose FM2+. I hear a 6 core FM2+ CPU/APU is coming, but I doubt it will defeat the 8 cores on the AM3+ platform. The mobo I paired with the AM3+ platform is pretty damn good, and it's the only 970 mobo I know of with SLI capabilities for future upgrades to your GPU. It's entirely up to you. If you do go FM2+ though, you'll need to upgrade your CPU when the newer more beefy Athlons come out. Whereas with the AM3+ stuff, once you get it, you won't need another CPU, and it will stand you in good stead of a while. At least 3-4 years. The GPU can be changed within 18-24 months.

Changed the cpu cooler again, and the R9 280. Same GPU, but different cooler.

No, like I was just checking with the difference between the regular and the 'X' version of the GPU's. Used the 260 as the reference.

Thanks for the tip. I was also about to go with the FX[AM3+]. If I'm getting good performance for 3-4 years, I see no reason to not choose the FX series. Any computer will be left behind in 3-4 years with the new technology coming up. So I don't expect more than that. I guess FX FTW then. Thanks man!
