Upgrading a Pre-Built

dylanmoody

My friend wants to a buy a pre-built computer and add a graphics card to do some light gaming. He doesn't want to go through the hassle of buying all of the parts to build a computer and he has his heart set on this particular one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883156236&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-All+Desktop+PCs-_-N82E16883156236&gclid=CNWNxJTRwcECFaZj7Aodb0gA0A

My question is, what would be the best graphics card I could put in here for him without replacing the power supply? I was thinking a 750 ti but I'm not sure.

I know all of this could be a lot easier but he is pretty stuck on what he wants.

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K @ 3.3 GHZ GPU: MSI GTX 980 OCV1 4GB RAM: Avexir Core Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 PSU: Cougar SL600 600W Mobo: MSI X99A SLI PLUS ATX LGA2011-3 Case: Rosewill Stryker M Mid Tower Storage: ADATA 240GB SSD, Toshiba 3 TB 7200 RPM HDD

It's a waste, motherboard and power supply are garbage. You can't pop in a video card with a POS power supply. CPU is more than capable though.

Main: i7 2600 | ASUS P8Z68-V | 2x4GB Vengeance 1600 | GTX 580 | WD Blue 1TB | Antec TP-650C | NH U12S | W7 x64

Backup: X6 1090T | MSI K9A2 Platinum | 4x2GB XMS2 800 | GTX 550Ti | WD Blue 1TB |  Antec VP-450 | CM TX3 | W7 x64

Yeah that's what I told him. I've tried it before and it's just more trouble than it's worth. Maybe I can put in like a GT 610 but even then he won't be able to play but so many games. Oh well, maybe I can covince him somehow to build his own. lol

Dell, surprisingly, makes a good PSU. (And yes, they don't use OEM)

No, get a 750ti. That will do. A GT 610 is about the same as intel HD graphics 4400.

I was the thinking the 750 ti all along because it's the best one I can find without needing a 6 pin lead and it only draws 60w.

I'd go for the R7 265, better performance than the GTX 750ti and only about $10-$15 more also the PSU if fine but I really would get a better one (CX430) in the near future just for the sake of having a good PSU so you could put a more powerful card in and not destroy the components also a SSD which will make a huge difference. For $500 it's not a good buy though because you can build a computer with the same specs for about $380

^This and actually the r7 265 is $9 cheaper than 750 ti and way better...

A GT610 will pretty much wreck you. I have experience. Now.

Hope you get that 760. It is relieving to have more than 40 FPS after the 610.

I probably can't. My dad has to keep paying the taxes.
