if i factory restore my laptop will I end up with all my files or no?

Back up all your files. If you reset it all of the files will be gone.

If you mean "Remove everything and reinstall Windows" then no. You will lose them, I would suggest a backup.

Knowing my current situation, how do it suggest I back up? I have a desktop that I can plug the hdd into if that helps?

Yeah it would help. Take the hdd off the laptop, put it on your desktop, then copy all the files to your desktop hdd. Or if you have an enclosure, you can do it easier.

I know it's simple but could you guide me through that process? I tried once before and it was just frozen, did not pause, but it halted at 11%

What do you mean it froze? What are you backing up exactly? Just plug in to the desktop(make sure that it's not the drive that you're booting up), then copy it(it's very simple).

What I did was plug it in. Open the hdd from My Computer. Make a file on my desktop and copy paste the drive.

And by froze; it just didn't go past 11% the hdd said it was 0% active from the task manager.

That's where I'm not sure what to copy. Should I just grab folders like programs x86 or should I dig through?

Here. If you're going to factory restore your laptop it should theoretically format your system and only leave the drivers and OS. I recommend you only backup your documents and maybe your favorite movies and songs. In other words, just copy the documents and downloads folder and other folders that may store some of your documents. :)

I did everything you said and I factroy restored it and it worked. BUT after the screen that tells me the precent of the restore that it was on, it started the computer like new, make a user name and pass ect ect... but that all had to be done on a separate monitor because my screen went black...
