MX100 vs 840EVO

scatcats22

They're both outstanding SSDs, I think the MX100 is slightly slower (Negligible though) and you can't go wrong with either of them.

Unless you're live streaming or something like that the MX is fine.
More storage is always better.

IIRC the 250gb Samsung is only around $230.

Which of the SSDs is better? Is spending the extra for the 840 worth it? I have a 2TB hard drive to go with it.

Or, for $210, I can get a 512GB MX100. Which is the better buy?

mx100 250gb or 500gb if you got the money, more storage is always a good thing.

yesterday's weirdness is tomorrow's reason why

I probably will go with the 512GB MX100. I didnt like the 840EVO because it has TLC which will degrade performance in the future.

I wouldn't be too concerned about that. The engineering that Samsung has done on TLC has really opened people's eyes. You'll run out of drive long before the drive runs out on you.

That said I still would recommend the MX100 over the EVO just for $ per gb.

It's going to take the better part of a decade before the EVO has worn to a point where the MX is faster. By the time that happens, 256GB probably won't be enough for a system disk anymore.

Sure, but a} has nothing to do with the TLC NAND, that's the software, and b} they've fixed it. Pretty good for a few weeks work. Samsung didn't deny, obfuscate or prevaricate they just bent down and fixed the problem, fast. That's pretty good.

This is how I judge things in my life... it's not whether there are problems, nobody's perfect, it's how they are dealt with. Samsung's response impresses me. Compare that to the Kingston debacle. How OCZ treated their customers et al. I have no hesitation in recommending Samsung drives. I just think that Crucial, at this time, is the better value.
